What is a "Fuel Sending Unit"???
Hi guys, I'm changing my electronical gauges to analog and I was able to obtain everything from the wireing harness to the speedo cable. I thought I had everything I needed to complete the swap but I was told that I will need to get the "Fuel Sending Unit" from the same donor car. The only problem is I have not had much luck in finding out what exactly the fuel sending unit looks like...I don't even know where to look other than next to the fuel tank. I've already looked at my Haynes manual and the only thing that sounds even close to what I need is called a "Fuel tank gauge unit"...is that it? I hope not because it looks more than just a sensor...I was hoping for a smaller sensor. Anyway, if you know what it is please please please point me in the right direction because I need to grab it before someone else takes it from the donor car at the junk yard. Oh yeah, before I forget my car is an 83 280zxt and I believe the donor car is a 79 (130mph speedo). Thanks for any help you guys can give me because so far I've been unsuccessful in getting any help from the other boards.

Yes, that is the sending unit for the gas gauge. Open the rear inspection hatch, under the carpet in the back. The top of the tank and the sending unit is under the inspection hatch. It will be a good opportunity to check out the inside of your gas tank. Make sure your battery is unhooked.
