such things you can do is to upgrade to the earlier SU type carbs, that will get you more power but i believe that if you stay with your 260z intake you will gain better hp then with the early manifold.. also you might consider changing the camshaft, you will get mad more power if you get the right cam.. also if you are going to do an overhaul, think about boring and stroking.. more power there.. but the largest difference you will notice that is fairly easy is the camshaft...

True, putting an L28 block in will give you more displacement easily. Besides the cam, putting in lower gearing gives noticeable more torque and power. That is my suggestion. Your 260Z 4-speed has the lowest gears of all Z-cars (same as the 620 truck tranny). So keep that unless you want a 5-speed. Try the 1975-80 Z-car 5-speed. Put in a 3.9 or 4.11 geared rear end if you can. LSD's are usually not available in really low gearing though. You'll probably have to go with a 3.7 because that is the most common and cheapest LSD.

i am currently running a L-26 in my 240, only cause i got it for free. There are some things you can do to the motor to make more power without breaking the bank or replacing it. 1: get a set of carbs from Z Therapy. 2: Replace the Nissan electronic ignition (old and antiquated IMHO) with a 240Z dizzy and a pertronix ignitor. 3: install a MSD ignition (6 series). 4: get a set of good equal length headers(more for weight reduction on a stock motor). and 5: plumb the exhaust with 2.5 in pipe with mandrel bends and use a good free flowing mufler. Mate that to your existing 260 4sp tranny and pick up a 3.54 rearend and go have a blast. if you want to spend some more money, Find a competent shop to build you a head... i would suggest a early E-88 unit and have larger valves fitted....had mine built by Sunbelt Performance in Atlanta for about 800 USD, yes they built the engine in the ARRC winning ITS Z-car piloted by Chet Whittle. Add on a turbo oil pump for reliability, and a 280 clutch..and you will be in business for sure. Just my two bits.

aye, i already have a 5speed tranny, came stock i in australia, cause its a 76 260z, 280z didn't come out in australia,
i'm changing my pistons to L28 flat top pistions, i'm getting a N42 head, extractors, with a free flowing exhaust system, witha tubo muffler, and im picking up some 73 carbs, so i'm heading along nicely... after that i'll be looking at dizzys etc...
