Oh yeah, there's a little pin shaped like an omega which holds the handle onto the cog thing. if you get a baby screw driver you can pop it off...it slides either toward the black bit from the centre or the other way but just make sure you see where it goes. It'll pop off with quite a bit of pace. good luck.

You need a special tool to remove the window cranks. Mine is made by K-D Mfg. Co. Model 430. It is made especially for removing early model door hardware. If you were to describe how it looks and works, it's similar to a large snap-ring plier, that squeezes together a metal ring that sets in a groove on the shaft of the crank.

I'm not speaking out of experience with the Z cars, and my '79 has power windows, but I have found out that that little tool does save time and effort. I don't even remember buying it, or what it might cost, but like everything else, there's probably the right way and then there's improvising when you have to. By the way, when reinstalling the crank, put the keeper on first, and push in place.
