Are Z cars expensive in upkeep and repair?
Most of the people that I talk to that own the cars say that they are inexpesive to keep and repair, but I talked to my mechanic and he seems to be under the impression that they are fairly expensive... I'm looking at buying a 1981 280ZX coupe in particular... will this car cost me lots of money?

Well I would think your mechanic doesn't know to much about a Z. Well the parts are as expensive as any other car. if you are keeping it stock. parts are fairly cheap. but if you are going to upgrade into performance. well some parts are a little in the high price. but not enough to keep you in dire straits. another thing if the car is well maintained, it would give you no problems. My friend bought a 2001 Lexus, and he had the motor replaced twice because of broken rods. My neighbor has a 2000 Lincoln Navigator and it has been in the shop more than in her garage. Now think about it. this cars are not that old, imagine when they hit 20yrs like my 83 280ZX, It makes you think if they are going to make it. At least my car is paid for. Just go for it. they are great cars. trust me. So far, my car has not left me stranded in the highway. like many late model cars that I see. good luck

all depends who u talk to i own a 1981 280zx now it was in bad shape when i bought it and last owner hasnt treated it right so im not suprised parts go. like if you talk to somone that fount a Z car in good shape theyll tell u its the best damn car u can own (it is) and som1 that has one thats in crappy shape theyll tell u theyr pieces of crap....i say go for it so far on mine except the body work i had to replace:
all four rotors (not some problem WITH the car, jus bad last owner not caring for brakes)
clutch (also owners fault the guy dunt deserve a car i tell ya)
now im just swaping newer parts with old ones

Can't go wrong these cars are bullet proof mechanically.
I own a toyota corolla it's a heap of [censored] always problems and it's only 10 years old. My 260z had less problems and more character.
