Easy spark plug removal

Hey guys, I'm trying to change out my spark plugs on my 1993 Z32 NA. I have all I need. I was wondering if you guys had any "easy" way to approach this. I've already done my homework on the online manual supplied by this site. Anything else I might need to finish this job, extensions, universal joint... etc.

Thanks guys!!!

Yea you will need a 12 inch 3/8 extension and a 6 inch exension i use a swivel mount on the end attached to a sprak plug socket " the key " is to use the sparlug socket with the rubber insert ! ... to extract the plugs now putin new plugs in might be a little harder

Normaly i have one spark plug socket with the rubber insert and one with out
when puting in the new spark plugs start out with the rubber socket once you get it started " pull " out the socket with the rubber insert , Then use the socket " with out " the rubber insert.

The two back spark plugs require u to take off the balance tube . 12mm bolts ?

Be carefully not to crack the connector clips to the coil paks ! take you time. its about a 30 min job for each side .

I also have a 1993 300zx

1. Unbolt your balance tube
2. DO one spark plug at a time
3. make sure to use spark plug " anti seize " compound.
4. take it eazy dont loose your bolts down the spark plug holes! :-( ouch
5. 3/8in 12 inch extension 6 " inch extension an i use a siwvel at the end .
6. Denso iridium spark plugs only
7. God be with you !

Thank you for the reply.

I have successfully changed them myself for the first time. Man that was a pain. It should be easier for the next time... IF there is a next time.

Reviving an old topic here. Any suggestions on the type of ngk plugs? Standard, iridium, platinum... too many choices! I used to be a Honda guy and it seemed like the standard ones were the way to go. Stock NA for now with the exception of a pop-charger.

the stock NGK plugs are really the best for the car. doesn't matter what your motive is to change to a different one, just don't. fsm or a quick forum search will give you the exact part number. make sure you find the number for the n/a plug. tt plugs don't work as well for the n/a.

I use one of my dad's old tricks; install the plugs using a length of rubber hose that holds the plug tightly, then use a socket once threaded (haven't changed the plugs in my n/a yet though).

Why is everyone so fervent about the original plugs? Seems like advances with dual and quad electrodes are an improvement over a 20 year design.

Welcome to ZDriver!

Not to be a downer of your first post, but how's that saying go??? There's a sucker born every second...

Nissan states to use NGK... until Nissan says "Hey! Use these gimmick expensive spark plugs that do the same thing as the basic NGK's!" you should continue to use the NGK's Nissan currently calls for.

Here's a good read I just found on the google machine: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/af...parkplugs.html

If you haven't changed the plugs in your NA yet, I'd bet you don't know what the inside of the cylinder head looks like, either. In which case, of course you wouldn't understand why we recommend ONLY NGK plugs. It's not because Nissan says so. So let's look at the VG30DE[TT] cylinder head design.

Notice that the hole where the spark plug enters the combustion chamber is raised a bit. Now let's look at some spark plugs...

Notice that the ONLY spark plug with a design to overcome this lip in the cylinder head is the NGK plug. The other two plugs would not even extend into the combustion chamber! They'd be firing from inside the recess of the lip. Furthermore, the closer to the center of the combustion chamber the plug gets, the more evenly it burns the air/fuel mixture. No multi-electrode design will be able to overcome the extra length into the cylinder that the NGK plugs get. The VG30DE[TT] cylinder heads are simply designed in such a way that they do not function as well with other plugs.

Next time you think you're smarter than Nissan engineers, remember... you're not.

When I first got my Z I changed the plugs and put bosch platinums in (i know, im sorry).

All the z would do is flood and flood and flood. This was like the day after I brought it home. Had it towed to the dealer ship, it sat there for three weeks, they couldnt tell me what was wrong with it, kept putting in shorter plugs.

You would think the dealership would have some kind of clue right?

Well I called a shop that had a few z's in it, turns out the guy who runs it LOVES these cars and works on them all the time, i told him what happened, he said "plugs too short, use the NGK oem ones." I told the dealership and that they were wrong and they still tried to charge me for having the car there for three weeks. I didnt pay a dime, retards. They also tried charging me for the plugs they had to repeatedly foul out.

Long story short, stick with the NGK's.
