1982 Cowl insert
I was messing with my car and decided to paint my plastic cowl insert. When I was done and went to put it back on those stubborn little clips that the screws go into all broke. Well I was a little upset because now I had no way to secure the cowl. Well I came up with a solution, since I have done more than my share of speaker instals I had alot of left over parts from the aftermarket speakers, like the little, black, metal mounting tabs most companys give you with their speakers. These are used to secure the speakers if the factory holes on the car are not threaded.
I squeezed the tabs together with some pliers to make sure they stayed secure on the car and slid them over the square holes. Then I located my screws, I bought some interior wood screws from Wal Mart a while back (PS-45) is the number on the package. They are long at 1 1/4 inch but worked well for this, IMO better then the factory screws I took off. I painted the cowl insert black and these screws are black and the head of the screw is level so it looks flush and clean up close and dissapears when you move away from the screws. I think this looks really good and should be alot stronger then the factory tabs.
