Really want to do this to my 83, fits in with what else I got planned

Original credit goes to richracing, who posted once about 2years ago, would be great if he chimed in

Remove bumper, metal work, body filler, sand, sculpt, primer, paint.

Ick.. I'm not a fan of the s130 bumpers or anything but this could use at least some styling or molding!

There was a yellow rear-bumperless 280zx on Cardomain years ago... the guy painted a Samurai on the hood. I think I've got a pic of it somewhere in my archives...

Quite a unique look that doesn't work for everyone's taste.

I think it definitely can look great if done right! I just think it'd look better with a bit more definition

yeah I know, its not for every one, but this make the car give me the same feel I have for an s30 but at the same time different... Isnt imatation the greatest form of flatery?

And before anyone comes in with "well why not just buy a real s30?" Well I don't have s30 money atm, not good with rust repair, the s30 is a lil too small for me (or im just to xxxl for it) parts are stupid to find and the s130 has some perks that make it better like a chassis that isn't comparable to a wet noodle (and some other negatives too) I think that, with s30 styling would be my ultimate z... Just something about it... anyway, off the soap box

I say that I like this one is because I think its the frist time I saw anyone try and mold the bumper in, rather than steel, cut, bend, weld, done...

Im not really good with body stuff but I want something like this, and am willing to learn... I was thinking he just laid a sheet over it, but how the corners? A gallon of bondo?

If anyone wants to present other ideas I'm all open, not set on it but this is the best I've seen yet

If you are okay with butchering your car to learn, go for it. Otherwise I suggest finding another car on which to practice, or take it to a custom / chop shop.

Auto body work isn't just picking up a hammer and whacking some metal, zapping sheet metal together, or slapping on some "bondo" (please don't use "bondo" brand body filler). It takes a lot of screw up time to understand it (I spent 3 years in the auto collision repair industry).

Well, I dont think this is a structural area id be messing with... and I hate to say it thers a bit of rust ive gotta repair anyways, I think no better time to learn autobody is dificult, but ivr got to learn if I want something. Ive got an idea how things are done but zero experence doing it... Maybe I should see how much a shop would run me? I'm all about built not bought but... I think I could do it, but doing it and looking right or being safe...

I wonder if thats mostly fiberglass around the corners or did he hammer it out somehow... Maybe make and mesure the corners in fg, flat sheet for the backside, and mold it all in... Still hard though

Like I did to mine? Took me probably 60 hours to do this, but I'm slow at body work so it could probably be done quicker by someone who knows what they are doing!

Has anyone tucked in the rear bumper? I always wondered how this would look. By tuck I mean blow the shocks and push it in

It would look like the bumpers got pushed in an inch.

The shocks have a bleeder screw - just unscrew it and press it in...

After a few years of looking at the shaved bumper I'm still up in the air. Looking at Evandubya is better than the first one and I noticed he still has the venting in his. I think maybe the shaved rear end but with some sort of agressive diffuser. The S130 has nice lines but shaving the rear makes it to "bubble" or rounded and soft in the rear.
