Car Alarm
Has anyone tried to install an alarm in a 280. I was just asking to see if I could get some help from someone that has done it. I got an alarm off ebay really cheap and don't really want to pay to have it installed. I can do engine and body work but I have never installed an alarm. I keep hearing it is hard to do and to just take it to a pro but that is the last thing I want to do . I would appreciate any info. Thanks

ive installed prolly one of the hardest alarms to install.. a clifford!!! they dont even give you the instructions in the box.. i had to get it from the web.. but installing an alarm isnt as hard as some would believe... if you can install your own stereo you can install an alarm.. i even added power door locks to mine too... shock, glass break sensors.. and even motion.. it took me a few hours to do it.. the hardest part is hiding all the wires. like i said.. if you can install your own sound system in your car you can install your own alarm!!! good luck man..

I haven't yet wired one up in my Z, but I did one in my previous car. The install itself is all a matter of crimp-connecting wires and finding interesting places to route them out of sight. The hard part is finding all the wires you have to tap into. It took me FOREVER to find the parking light control wire in my previous car. So, it would be a very good idea to have a Factory Service Manual handy, or some other manual with a wiring diagram. If you get stuck, I'm sure there's someone around here that can help you on the wire colors, etc. One more thing, do not, DO NOT, twist your wires together and electrical tape them to make a connection. A buddy of mine paid a lot of money to have some audio shop put his expensive alarm in, and thats what they did. Thanks to them, I got to get REAL intimate with the underside of his dashboard to fix all the shorts. Do it right the first time, it's worth the extra work .
