Cleaning Engine BLock

Revised question... I just bought gunk heavy duty degreaser. besides the battery, distributor and spark plugs what else should be covered? Is it ok to spray water onto the injectors? I would like to clean everything eventually. will probably do one part of the engine at a time but I don't want to destroy anything. Would disconnecting the battery prevent shorting circuits?
Anyone who has done this before please advise. Thanks in advance.

yea i used that stuff not to long ago on the engine. and you basicly want to cover anything that is oil bassed. for instance all of you rubber hoses should be covered or removed. since the degreasers are desighned to basicly desolve oil. you shouldn't have a problem with spraying down the engine as long as you have the battery disconnected and the distributer convered and all holes basicly covered so water won't get into the engine.

Altenator !!!!!
Get that wet you are screwed
Feel free to lightly spray over the injectors and fuel rail as the degressor shouldnt hurt them... as they have o rings to prevent and forgein material getting in just make sure the connections are dry after
Dont spray over electronic connections..if possible.. use the hose to wash it off after no pressure needed as the degresser should soak in and loosen off everything.

ive used that product befire and i had no problem with it... i f you use it with a preasure water sprayer it works a lot better... just dont leave it in loger then what the can tells you to leave it in... jsut make sure you cover your distributer cap... you might want to take off the access cap ontop of the intake manifod to help the water drain... and ket the car run after the wash to help it dry off...

Yeah thats my baby... Unfortunately, under the hood is filthy. I picked her up in January and have been restoring her ever since.
Latest thing I had done: The underbod was very rusty and had some rusted out holes. So I sent it to the body shop where they cut out the rusted up areas and welded new sheet metal. And under coated it. Hopefully it will give me some more years on the car.
Here are some pics. Its a 79 280zx 2+2 btw.

Hey, I use Castrol Super Clean, it comes in a purple container. I spray it on let it sit, start the engine, spray of with water, and let the engine idle till dry. Never had a problem. Just keep the fenders wet otherwise it leaves spots. Keep them washed of and your good.
