Thanks, yes I'll secure it properly. Actually, I had been asking bout the plastic thing that covers the entire dash, but I think that for the moment I will go with that carpet like cover for the top. I need to keep things simple for now as there are so many things this 81 needs.
Thanks again, John

im using one of those dash caps on my car too.. its actually not that bad... from first glance you wouldnt know it was a cap.. but it did take a lil work to get it to fit on right... i had to trim off some of the origional dash to get it to fit tight.. but it came out looking really good.. its a simple solution till you do find a replacemnt dash..

my first 280zx had a plastic cover like the one you are describing and the only problem that i had with it was where the stock dash was cracked, i never properly prepared it for the cap. if you just stick a cover over severe cracks w/o prep eventually the cover will crack too, especicaly if you live in a hot climate. reason being where the dash is cracked the foam will expand and the crack will grow upward right through your cap. take a razor blade and carefully cut about 1/2 inch to the sides of the crack, then fill it with r.t.v. (silicone sealant). let this cure and you are ready for your "new dash". good luck
