door speaker location?
Hey,
Its a long shot but Im wondering if anyone has any pictures of where exactly they placed their door speakers? I figured the audio thread might be of help but none of the pictures seem to work.
Thanks,
rob

Heat Ravr put 6" round speakers in the lower front position of the door. He said he bought the most narrow speakers he could find and still had to buy a 1.5" spacer ring to space it out far enough to completely clear the power window.

So that's like what? 2" total spacer including the "LED" bling-ring?
There was a picture on here or zcar.com where the guy made an angled spacer that mounted it in the foot well on the kick panel and he still had use of the dead pedal.
It was a really nice custom install and he kept them off the doors so he didn't have to munge the factory door panel and since it was angled towards the passenger compartment, he got pretty good directional sound out of them as well.
I'll see if I can dig up the original post.

I don't think any S30 or S130 car had door speakers from the factory. (but I could be wrong)
I had a couple 280Z's and none of them had door speakers. The old S30's were known for having that one speaker in the back corner. That is all. The 280ZX has the left and right speakers up in the dash.

The speaker rings I used totaled about 1.5" or so. I'd considered mounting on the kick panels as well, but they just weren't solid enough that I'd want speakers mounted on them. Plus, I didn't much care for having a big magnet and high powered speaker wires mounted right next to the ECU.

Crap where was I...I didn't even see this thread pop up.
My **** was so getto they would even steal it in the getto. I made boxes and covered them with fiberglass...well goo is the best I can describe it and it sucked...they sounded good in the car but took up alot of side leg room. I would not put speakers on the doors again in a 280zx. I now have my Rockford 6 1/2's in the factory location behind the seats and they are just fine there.

I have upgraded 3" speakers in the dash, tweets at the top of the a-pillars, component 6"s behind the seats w/ the tweets at the top of the b-pillars, and 8" kicker subs in the back of the hatch in hard plastic boxes. My Z is kept light for speed, and just enough volume to jam to any tune.

Thanks for posting the pics THX. I think ill scratch the whole door speaker idea and just order some 4" speakers for the stock location. Although Im not sure because it looks the MSA dash cap im about to order covers one of the speakers?
