fiberglass
I was talking to a guy in the shop today about spraying that black primer rust killer stuff on my car, and here is what he told me. " Rust killer only slows rust, doesn't stop it. The only way to get the job done right is to take out the engine, wires, basically everything in the car and sand it all down to bare metal, then as soon as its sanded spray it with black primer before moisture can build up. " He also mentioned swapping out all of the body pannels for fiberglass.. is there anyone who still makes fiberglass pannels for the ZX cars? If so, please send a link someone..

hmmmm...
Unless I'm completely mistaken, primer is absorbant. And if it absorbs, then it's going to be holding water on your freshly sanded body panels and promoting rust. Now, if you were to paint on top of the primer, that's an entirely different story. As for fiberglass panels, I don't know of anyone who makes/carries them personally, but I rather doubt they would be worth the money (lots of it) to you unless you need that weight savings for professional racing. If your car is having rust problems, and you have the time and the means to pull the engine, interior, and all that, then I'd say that sanding all the rust off of the affected areas down to bare metal, welding new metal to replace areas that have rusted through, priming, and painting those areas would be a very good start to slowing/stopping rust. As for the body panels, why not just grab some new metal ones and either paint or undercoat them before putting them on? I think that they would probably last quite a while if done right, and be cheaper than fiberglass. Sorry if this was long-winded, but it's sounding like that guy might not have your wallet in mind if he works for a body shop

There use to be an Arizona company that made fiberglass body parts for the Z but they stopped making them and all they sell now are the molds. I guess maybe if you are lucky you could look around for a wrecked one in a junk yard that had fiberglass body panels but I really doubt that.

That's not the company I thought he was talking about. They don't make factory body panels for the 280zx. They only make a complete kit car for the ZX to make it look like a Ferrari.
I think the other company was called Arizona Z. They had the hood and front fenders for a 280zx in fiberglass in the factory shape. They also had some fiberglass rear hatches that you could put plexiglass into instead for more weight saving.
