Hatch rods
Hello all,
I recently bought some hatch rods from a gentleman in Canada. I have an 83' 280ZX coupe. He sent me hatch rods that are about an inch and a half too long. Can anyone verify that these are hatch rods for maybe a 2+2 or something? Maybe a 280Z, 240? Just want a wealth of info before I email the guy back.
Thanks.

id check to see if they work first.. do they have the same mountings as the stock ones?? they could also be aftermarket ones that should still work.. i know that the S30 (240-280Z's) have a diffrent mounting sytem.. not too sure if the 2=@ 280ZXs are diffrent... if all else fails you could upgrade by using the later model 300ZX (z32) hatch shocks.. you just have to mount them upside down.. thats what i did.. and those things work great...

those shocks are super strong... my wing is fiber glass and pretty heavy.. the shocks push the hatch up with the wing with no problem .. you could lift it half way and let the shocks do the rest...

The 300zx ones will fit on the coupe just as icice9 says....and are strong enough for the added wing or louvre weight.
I tried it when he first told us about it. Unfortunately they are not long enough for a 2+2 hatch. Cant find the 2+2 hatch supports anywhere here just yet anyway. So I use a pair of locking plyers to keep the hatch up.

I got a half a broom stick I wedge in to hold mine open. It's ghetto as hell, I know, but hey it works til I finally man up about buying some new ones They're just not on my "to do" list until I get the body worked out. I think I finally worked all the engine bugs out with new wiring and connectors.

Oh ice, if you're still checking this post. Did you post on how to adjust the window to seal against the seal on the outside of the door? I thought I read somewhere someone saying you posted on how to adjust that. I got a gap on mine and everytime it rains my doors fill up with water. I thought I just needed new seals til I read that. What thread is it in, or if you didn't post it, hows it done?

take off the door panels and look for o belive are 4 nuts that are threaded on adjustment screws.. there should be 2 on the upper half of the door and 2 on the lower half.. you can adjust the angle of how the glass is seated to the jambs.. its kinda a triar and error method.. i helped out apalo when he adjusted his windows... let me know it works out...
