Headlights for my Z.

Alright, I've been planning on getting some new lights. The stock ones are alright, but brighter cleaner light wouldn't hurt and really does add a nicer look. Anyway I'm going through the Vic Brit catalog, or should I say Black Dragon. Anyway I'm going through they have the Euro Crystal Clear, Hella Vision Plus, and the 7" Round Tripod Headlight with Halogen Bulb. I'm curious about opinions on any of these. Also is it recommended to get the "Heavy Duty Headlight Harness"?

Hey buddy, those lights are a good idea and will make it easy to change your bulbs if they blow, I have also looked at those in my "Black Dragon Catalog." If you really want a bright white light that will drop in with no mods at all then you may want to head down to Advance Auto Parts and grab the Sylvania Silver Stars, I was suprised to see that they actually make them for the Z cars, Very bright white and I have noticed with three cars now that the light pattern is very close to the same when instaled. If you goto www.partsamerica.com they have them here is the model number Sylvania Headlamp: Sealed Beam; Halogen; Silverstar®
Part Number: H6024ST
$19.99 apiece for a 1982 ZX, a very good buy at this price and after using them I will stand behind them. Also if you go with the ones from "Black Dragon" you can get the H4 drop in Silverstars for them. Just some food for thought.

I bought H4 conversions that are basically like the Euro crystal clear headlights. The light output is about the same but they look a lot better. I'm using some generic superwhite bulbs. I've also heard to buy the Silverstar H4 bulbs which I plan to if these bulbs ever go out.

NISMOpick used the regular housing but put in real HID elements. Someone else did the projector lenses and is currently running normal bulbs inside them. Projectors with HID would be ideal.
I did buy some Hyundai headlights from some luxury car. One day I may pull the projectors out and install them in some H4 housings.

I like to use the Hella H-4's that are DOT approved. When aimed properly they don't blind oncoming drivers and it definently improves your vision at night. If you want it to be extra bright then install some 90/130 bulbs, but be sure to install a headlight relay system, that will make a very big difference, just don't get a cheap relay system like VB sells, get a good one. I think that summit sells one of those, otherwise I have a local guy that makes them to sell to the public. The relay system is a key part to brighter headlights, not to mention making your switches last just about forever.

ya, my switches and wire connections are getting burnt just from the 55w H4 bulbs that I've been running for about 5 years with stock wiring.

I take it that the stock wiring is more than enough to last for a long time with H4 bulbs then?

Depends on the wattage they draw. The stock wiring is fine for the low wattage stock bulbs, but more powerful bulbs will tax the factory wiring.

Get real Cibie lenses and Narva H4 bulbs.

They also sell a very good relay harness "kit". You supply the wiring diagram and manhours.

I've had the 'Diamond Cut' one's from eBay and though they are a little brighter from the higher wattage bulbs, I was floored when I compared them to a friends Cibie's with LOWER wattage bulbs! The quality of the glass is the ABSOLUTE most important component in a headlight.

My Diamond Cut's looked like they were going through murky water in comparison. I bit the bullett and bought the Cibie's with Narva 100/55 watt bulbs and it was like night and day...

Sorry punks... I had to train a new person at work today, so I couldn't dink on the web.

I did put in BMW 5 Series HiD's in my Diamond cut headlights. Just took about 10 minutes each to dremmel the mounting plates for the bulbs. But yes... without the projector lenses, they aren't as focused. Still blue as hell, but the beam is wider. I really bought them as an excuse for my stock headlight wiring harness not working. The owner of my turbo donor car had chopped into the headlight wiring.

One day I will buy the projector lenses... but they're plenty good for now.

you know what... I just remembered I am running 80w bulbs not 55w. No wonder my wires are crispy! yikes! I should have been running relays all these years but nobody told me...

Oh my God I almost cried tears of joy when you said they make them for our Zs!!! My friend has them on his car and when I told him why I removed my headlight covers (told him cause they dim my stock lights) he told me to get silverstars, then I thought they dont make those for old Skool Zs. Yaaay im going to the store right now!

Oh and the diamond cut headlights come up all the time on ebay, but I didnt think they were good cause they were listed to also fit Sentras and a bunch of other cars. But glad to see someones tried them, and whats with the little blue bulb in the housing? Is that like a parking light? Just wanna know before I buy...

I've been using the SilverStars for a long time now. They are good... but they aren't enough to cut through the tinted headlight covers at night very effectively.
