I modified my 280zx interior
I spent the weekend at the local pick and pull, and came up with some great interior modifications for my 280ZX. It turns out that a lot of interior parts from the 280ZX and 300ZX are interchangable! I ended up getting the seats, sunvisors, and rear cargo mat, and that plastic panel that goes under the hatch from a wrecked 300ZX. Surprisingly, all of the parts were in pretty good shape and I didn't spend over $50 on the lot. I ended up ditching the back seats in my 280zx, and the cargo mat from the 300zx slipped over that whole area very nicely. There's still some metal exposed on the floor, but I'm going to cover it with a piece of carpet from Auto Zone. The seats were a real squeeze, and I had to swap out the tracks from my old seats. After some spacers, some grinding, and a little fudging I now have fully adjustable electric seats in my 280ZX that offer far more back support than the stock seats.

All of the 300ZX interior parts that I got were from an '87. I'll try to get some pics later this week so you can see what I did. The seats are going to need some shims because they don't sit quite straight. I used some Duplicolor fabric and vinyl spray to match the parts to my interior color. It worked pretty good! (even on the carpet) You can pick up some of that spray at Autozone.

as far as the physical size of the 300ZX seats go, they are actually a little wider than the 280ZX seats. It's a very tight squeeze, but they fit in there all the same. Even though the seats are larger, they hold you in there a lot better because of the huge bolsters (driver side adjustable) and lumbar support. There's also a lot of neck support (adjustable headrest). The rear outer corners of the seats need to be shimmed up and custom brackets (90 degree angle) need to be fabricated for the inner front corners. The stock 300ZX mounting brackets won't work with the 280ZX because they slant out at an angle, causing the front of the seat to tilt upwards. It takes some mickey mousing, but they'll go.

Very nice YomamaZ,
Can you send me some pics of your car. I'm in a process of restoring it myself. I'm impressed how you are on this restoration project!
