interior light

I'm almost drawing a blank tonight, I've been stripping out and respraying the 1982 280zx's interior. When I started closing it up tonight I noticed the front lower panel lights would not go out. Never really paid any attention to which ones fade out after closing the door. Since all the others go out I'm thinking these must be controlled by the room dimmer switch. The lamps were on for about 8 hours while I was working on the car. Does this sucker get hot and hang or anything, or if I pulled a wire when the kick plate was removed would it bypass the timer for dimming the lights. The battery cables were removed for the night. Just trying to see where to start tomorrow! Everyone seems to have plenty of lights that will not light, mine aren't going out!

I'm not really sure what your question is as you didn't clarify or add question marks... but the kick panel lights and over head light should dim. The door lights should go out right when the door shuts. Have you checked the door pin switches?

Sorry for not clarifying, long day and not enough wine yet.The question would be what could cause the panel lights to stay on (other than the obvious with the door switches). The overhead and the door lights go off as soon as the door shuts, the door switches are working fine. The 1982 factory manual refers to a room dimmer being located in the left kick panel. I'm suspecting this as the kick panel was removed today. To late to start checking it tonight though! Just researching for tomorrow!

the rear hatch might be open - the door lights go out but not the kick panel lights when the hatch is unlatched (even if the hatch is closed but the release cable was pulled the lights are on)

Thumbs up

Thanks, I like a simple fix!The hatch was locked solid and the cable was down good.Just reopened, shut it and watched the lights go out. I had opened and shut it last night with the key, guess the cable needed a tweak. Thanks
