Question Interior lighting issues

my 79 zx dash lights, the brake, door, and fuel lights came on for no obvious reason. Anytime i rev over 2000 they come on, but now thismorning they stayed on from the time I started it all the way to work (about 15 miles). the car is running fine, all the other gauges are working. I did check the doors, hatch, fuel level and e-brake just to make sure. could anyone help me out so i am not blindly looking around.

thank you,
free z (not so free anymore)

Your alternator is going bad. When the dash lights all light up, it's a warning you're not getting a full charge from the alt. Replace it soon before it leaves you stranded. It wasn't fun for me changing my alt. in the middle of an industrial area at midnight.

that happened to me while I was driving a truck with a 16 year old alternatior (truck is a 90 gmc sierra) I got all the lights and sounds, pulled into a gas station, popped the hood, and the mechanic came running towards the truck with a fire extinguisher.

The alternator was in flames.

Moral of the story....GMC trucks ROCK!!!

100% correct, as I was instructed to do the same here recently with my ZX...it is the alternator. When I swapped mine out I took the bad one to the parts store to have it tested and they said it had a bad diode group. I also had the exact same dash light symptoms.
