My Shifter Mod, N/A Trans

Well I wanted a short shifter for my Z. but could not go T-5. So i got my hands on a few S30 shifters, and cut/grinded one down. So here it is. I am thinking of going down a lil more.

How much did you actually cut out of it? When I did that to my shifter I took out an 1 1/2" and I like where it is right now. Any lower wouldn't feel right in my opinion.

I wouldnt take any more off. You didnt even have to take any material off. you just Dog leg it like I was saying in your other post. Heat it about an inch above the hole, put it in a vice and bend it back. Cool it. Heat another inch and a 1/2 above your first bend and push it forward. Short throw, specially' with all the material you already removed, that thing would be SCCA ready. I'll pull my shifter out this weekend and put it next to a stock unit and show you guys what I'm talking about. Nobodys heard of doing a short throw like this?? This cat I used to work for auto crossed Z cars in the late 70's and said he did it all the time. It works.

Are you saying to make it look like this?

That's not making the throw any shorter, just moving the position. The "technical" way to make a shorter throw is to lengthen the bottom pivot (like a lever in physics).

Thats the bend I was talking about. The old timer I worked with used the 240/280 style shifters and I think he shortened them too. I didnt shorten mine, just bent it, and flipped the plastic piece(82') upside down, lengthing the bottom pivot. Does that count? Or is it just a mind fuct, it feels shorter.

Ah roger... yeah, I didn't get that you lengthened it in your first post. Indeed... shorter throw.

So, for anyone doing a search, this might be of some use. After you dog leg the shifter you must flip that platic piece around to lengthen that bottom pivot point... Creating a short throw shifter. Then shorten it to desired length. Do I have that right Nismo?
