Opinion on material for foot heat shield?
When I recarpeted my 280ZX, the new carpeting did not have that sewn-in vinyl protector on the transmission tunnel, by the gas pedal. While on a long range trip/vacation recently, my right foot was sure starting to get hot from the heat radiated from that area, so I'm planning to install some kind of shield/plate where that vinyl protector used to be (there's already reflective heat insulation under the carpeting), which will also prevent chafing against the carpeting from my heel.
So my question for you all is what type of material should I use to make this thin plate? I know aluminum is often used as a heat barrier material, but doesn't it soak after awhile? I'm also thinking maybe a carbon fiber plate as another candidate. Opinions?
