The round tailight project **pictures**

I mocked up those schoolbus lights I've been talking about on my car today. I'm not sure whether I'm going to install them as-is or put in a little back up light in the middle of the turn signals like the F40

The inspiration

I agree, they do look a bit too big on there. But I'm still interested to see how it goes.

School bus...

I will have to see how they look with the MSA bumper on there. Since the existing panel will be completely filled in I may move them a little further down to make them centered between the bumper and the edge of the hatch.

may want to go with the grote brand semi trailer lights. they are LED as well, and a bit smaller, maybe try to give perspective to whats available. but imo those are huge!! and may be harder to mount then the others. but if those are sunk in, they may improve lots.

The 4" trailer lights are too small for the back of a ZX in my opinion. These 6" lights are a bit larger than i would like, but are a much better fit than any others I've seen. Plus they bolt to any flat surface with 4 sheetmetal screws. The only way they could make them easier to install would be if they used double-sided tape.

I will wait to do the actual install until I get an MSA bumper on the back of the car so that I can center them properly between the edge of the hatch and the top of the bumper. I'm also considering putting in a black mesh section in just like that F40 pictured above. Does anyone know where I could get some of that mesh material in a large enough sheet to make it all 1 piece?

i think home depot sells alum mesh like that you can just paint it black.

I think if you could mold in the taillight panel flush with the rest of the rear and then move the lights down, even if only less than an inch, that would put them in visually better location. i also think the fact that you only mocked up the one side hurts the appearance too. I think in the end if you pull it off right then it will look nice.

Exactly what i was thinking J.

I thought about mocking up both sides to see how it would look (its not like its a lot of extra work) but decided to leave it for better comparison. Just cover up the other taillight so you only see the one I did and its easy to imagine what the other side would look like with the same treatment. Also, I think the overall apperance is hurt by the fact that the area behind the lights is not the same color as the rest of the car... makes it look unfinished.

The lights are bit big but not too bad, the rear end is a real **** to get right because its so bitzy, so hard to get the entire rear end looking integrated.
