Tee Top metal inserts
Hi, I have just tried to remove the paint from my tee top panels due to corrosion at the ends which I have seen on three sets now. One layer of black paint came off revealing a layer of white and some black stuff below (not paint) the other side the black came off and showed what looked like a smooth black plastic layer. Does anyone have a sure-fire way of taking the material back to the Aluminium like on aircraft? I used aircraft paint remover but it is patchy. I don't wish to sand as AL scars badly if you do that.

Hi,
I have have the same problem on my drivers side tee-top on my 1980 z. I went to three body shops which do excellent work. They all said they would try to clean the corrison off. But they would not guarantee that it would not return. Replace it a used one for about $100.00 to $150 a pair. But they could have the same problem. I have seen some cars with no problem on their tee tops. New one is $400.00 at Nissan OEM.
Good Luck.
