Water In Floorboard

I Am Looking At Buying A 83 Zx, But When I Checked The Floor Pan, The Carpet Under The Passenger Floor Mat Was Wet. It Is Not Green Or Oily, So I Ruled Out Antifreeze or Heater Core Leaking. The Water Is Clear, Which Means Rain Or A/C? It Is Not Coming Through Tops, Since The Carpet Appears To Be Wet Only At The Floor And On The Side Where The Carpet Tucks Under The Door Plastic Trim. I Know I Have Had Similar Problems With My Wife's Miata, And Cleaning Out The Rain Drain Holes Under The Car, Solved The Problem. Any Ideas, Or Suggestions Where It Could Be Coming From? Thanks For The Help, Since I Want This Resolved Before I Buy The Car.

windshield might be one...also you know where the recircualtion sucks the air from outside in? like the grille thats like 4 inches wide and like 3 feet long right at the bottom of the windshield...well if theres a hole in the firewall and it could be slipping trough there....also could be coming in on the side of the windows.....check those spots
nice use of capitalation on every word that must take some practice?

I have the same problem and when I pulled the carpet up there was a holein the drivers side floorpan. On my 2+2 there was a hole through the firewall all the way to the tire so when I drove in the rain whoever was shotgun got wet feet.

I am going to go through the underside of the car and check for rust. I'm not sure where the car has been other than the present owner. If the floorpans look good, with no rust, then I'll probably go ahead and get the car, strip out the carpet and start searching for the leak. He only wants a thousand for it and the motor has been rodone, and he is a mechanic who works at the top of the line auto repair shop in town, and eveyone I know that I ask, that knows him, tells me he is an honest guy. Thanks for all the suggestions, since I want to resolve this before I purchase the car. By the way, I typed my first thread in all caps, and the computer must changed it to caps on all words.

It looks decent and a buddy of mine is painting it for $ 500.00, and my son and I am redoing the interior, but rust scares me.

Today, Saturday, we put the car up on the lift at the shop and found the hole in the firewall near the wheel, which answered my leak question. I also had a chance to walk around under the car and check for leaks etc. I got him to sell me a parts car he had in the yard for $ 200.00. The front is straight and I plan to move the front clip to my car before painting. NOW, I'm getting excited. I want it all done like yesterday! For my $ 1200, I also got the motor and tranny in the parts car and another motor and tranny, he had pulled out of a wrecked Z. I'm sure you all will be hearing from me a lot in the future, with many questions. Will put out some pics as soon as I start making headway. Thanks everyone, for the help and suggestions. With this purchase, I am officially a 3 Times a Z Owner.
