Yes Aussies only got 2+2 cars. The 2-seater 'could' be a Europe or Japan import into your country.

The 2-seaters are generally more sought after here in the states. I do have a 280ZX 2+2.

Trust me Wildman, I've still got the bug.

I was actually planning on doing a group build with a couple friends ... we found a Mercedes Benz 190E 4-door with no engine for $400, and we were planning on using the L28E and 5-speed from my Zed to power it ... might still be a possibility.

I'm going to talk with a friend of mine this weekend to see if I can store my Zed at his compound [he owns a landscaping company].

The Crazy-*** "soon-to-be-supercharged/turbocharged/naturally-aspirated" 2+2 ZX project might still survive!!!

That's awesome man, good to hear you still have the bug. I have had it most of my life. But didn't get my first Z until 25. But hey, better late than never. Keep us posted, and good luck to you on your project. Mine is still waiting for more money. Ughh!!

Trust me - I"m working hard to keep her.

North America's largest road course opens on the 7th, and it's an hour away from my place.

Can you say Track Project?

SO what you're saying is...

Thanks for the response guys but the question still remains... how many 280 2+2s are there in the states, how rare are te, are they a "1 in 10" type deal or is it just coz u guys like the 2 seater better...

Ali, you know it. I've had other cars including a mint '79 Rx7 GT, and my ZedSled doesn't compare. It's just too great of a car, and I've always loved Nissan's quality. I appreciate the compliments, as well.

As for the amount of 2+2s this side of the pond, I'd say its a 40/60 split, in favor of the 2-seaters.

Just a little trivia for you, about 75% of all 280ZXs [both turbo and N/A] in Japan are 2+2s.

I believe Euro countries only got the 2-seater, but don't count me on that.

I think it's probably more of a 70/30 or even 80/20 mix in favor of the two seater here. I see far more of them. Now maybe it's just because I spend all my time in Southern California and Florida, but it sure seems like the two seater is far more prevelant. Personally I don't much care for the styling on the 2+2... it's a little too Johnny Sako's Giant Robot looking for my taste, but I know there's a lot of folks who prefer the 2+2's style. It's all personal Taste. The two seater is more of a true weekend getaway sports car/GT car for most people. It stands more for individuality and freedom for me. I don't ever have to be the designated driver. It's all about me, and occasionally one passenger enjoying the open road in style and comfort with the wind rushing in through the top of the car. Don't think I'm knocking the 2+2, I think they have their own special qualities. I just think they are two very different cars. Also, from a performance stand point... Since these car's aren't exactly dripping with horse power, the added weight is an issue (No I'm not calling your car fat either ).

Over here in NC I see probably a 50/50 percentage of 2+2 and 2-seaters 280ZXs.

Back when I was a kid, I used to love this really bad japanese sci-fi movie called "Giant Robot", later it became known as "Johnny Sako's Giant Robot". It was about a kid who somehow managed to befriend and take control over a gargantuan robot that he controlled by speaking commands into his wristwatch. He would send his giant robot off to defeat the scourge of monsters that sought to wreak havoc on the Japanese mainland. One by one his trusty robot defeated the mightiest of foes.

What I meant, without saying directly, was that the 2+2 styling for me (and remember, this about personal taste only), was a tad "Too Japanese". Where the two seater had hints of classic European styling (i.e. Porsche, Jaguar etc...), The 2+2 seemed to share more traits with other Japanese car's of it's time period. I think the single bigest turn off for me is that giant rear window. It is reminisant of too many other of it's contemporaries... MKII Supra, Mitsu Starion... You know?

I'm not saying it's downright ugly, It just doesn't appeal to me on the level that the 2 seater does. I thought my last post summed it up pretty well when talking about the whole "weekend getaway" type thing.

So, I'm not trying to insult your car, or your taste in car's. I just don't personally find the style appealing when compared to the 2 seater. If it makes you feel any better, I know plenty of people who think my car is butt ugly. At least I'm not going that far...

Thumbs up No Offence Rod

Thanks Rod,
Yeah, im sorry if i made u feel bad bout not liking my car or whatever, i was a little agressive in my reply for some unknowen reason, im sorry. i understand where you coming from with the styling choice, and my choice leans toward the 2+2 with the more flowing lines and such (example, the shape of the rear windows) and what you said about the 2+2 being reminicent of other jap cars is accurate, i like that... i almost bout one of those 1981 xx mk ii supras u mentioned, because i like them, but im glad i got my 280... more horses and such with a 2.8 instead of a supra 2 litre... the only bad thing is the supra was a 5 speed man, and my 280's an auto...

Cheers
Jono

Hi bleach,
I sent you this message privately but thought just incase id like to publicly say thanks for your explanation of 2+2s and 2 seaters "down under". and id also like to tell you how much i love your 2+2 and your other 2 z's aswell. i have a 79 fairlady 2+2 (parts) and an 81 2+2 (daily driver)... theyre no where near as fine as yours because mine are both rust buckets, oh and i think u sent me some helpful info on the rb20 in a 280 query i had... thanks...
anyway, keep up the good work, and where the hell did u find a picture of a "transformer" 280? can u send it to me please: rockindotcom@hotmail.com

keep up the good work
jono

Flowing lines????? On the 2+2??? Dude, the "kink" in the roof of the 2+2 is what IMO makes it ugly compared to the 2-seater. The 2-seater has much smoother flowing lines than the 2+2. Thats coming from someone who owns both a 2-seater and a 2+2.

ya, that's my car.

Do you think my 280ZX would look good with the round 240Z fender mirrors? (1970 Fairlady Z mirrors) I have been thinking about those because I know where to buy some.
