Big Time Brake Problem

Ok... I have new rotors and pads all around. New calipers on 3 of 4 tires. But the thing is the front driver brake keeps seizing up and eating brakes. I've bled all 4 multiple times and no progress. I'm getting good fluid everytime I bleed, anyone know a solution? Please help as this is my DD and I miss being able to drive my baby. TopSpeed (that's what I call my car) just had alot done, but I shouldn't be having this problem considering that the one caliper that didn't get changed has no problems. (passenger front)

under what circumstances does is seize? after driving a while? all the time? after hard braking?

i know you bled it, but it's easy to bleed wrong. sounds like air in the line expanding when it gets hot.

It's after driving a while.... everytime. And yeah you're right it could be air in the lines considering who I had helping me.

When I first got my car back together, one of the calipers was dragging and it only seemed like after a while that it started dragging, but after looking at the caliper, I noticed that one of the floater pin things has a rubber portion on it that expanded when I cleaned it/got something in there and wouldn't allow the caliper to move at all and make it drag on the rotor.

somethin to look into, it's easy enough to check, just unbolt the two 14mm bolts on the caliper ears and see if the pins can move back and forth without too much resistance.

check the free play on your brake pedal. if not set correctly the pads drag just enough to heat up and then really start dragging bad. Forget the comment about air in the lines heating up. Density of air not enough to put presure on hydraulic system which is why you get a mushy pedal that goes to the floor if system is incorrectly bled. Stand on your head look up you will see the rod that goes to the master cylinder with a lock nut. Loosen same. Thread the rod back so that it effectively shortens the rod. Try one turn for a start. If that solves your problem but brakes seem loose go 1/4 turn back and try again. Doesn't take much I found out. also check the pins for freedom of movement as above.

could be a hose. im actually over haulin the brakes on my 83 right now haha. the hoses have 2 layers so even though they look fine they could be collapsed. they are only 10 bucks and bout 15 minutes of work. good luck

air expands when it gets hot. when the system isn't pressurized (as in when cruising), and the fluid is hot from braking, why would the air not expand and cause his brake to drag.

i agree, air compresses when you pressurize the system with the pedal, but when it's not pressurized, air can do stuff.

if you took a course in fluid mechanics you would understand or just use common sense. Hot fluid expands more and puts more pressure on the system as it is basically an incompressible fluid at the conditon found in the system.

the piont of brake fluid though, sir, is that it doesn't expand. air does. it is incompressible, that is why air is able to push on the pads when it expands.

did you read the link i posted?

And back to the original problem here...

feifongwong, did you bleed both ports on the master cylinder too?

If you have quadruple checked the system to have been bled properly, then on to the other components as previously mentioned. I would start w/ a CLOSE inspection of the calipers. They are most likely seizing up due to corrosion or component problems.

ahh that's a great one. it's so great coming from a poorly punctuated and less than coherent sentence. people like you take the pleasure out of forums for me. you're just arguing something that you think you know. do some research, and come back with facts, and sources.

If you replace your brake lines, I do highly recommend the Earls SS brake lines.
