early z wheels on my '81 ZX

Hi all,

I just picked up a set of 14x6 shelby slot mags from a 260 owner looking for a 16" setup. I figured that they would bolt right up to my '81 ZX. I was wrong.

The wheels did not come with lug nuts and the "reach-style" lugs for my stock zx wheels are too big to fit the hole of my slots.

Should I...

a) take a wheel to the local shop and try to find similar "slimmer" lug nut to accomodate the smaller hole opening?

b) have a machine shop drill the holes to take the more current ZX setup?

thanks,
Tal Griffin

c) don't ruin them... sell them and keep the wheels that are on your car.

ive had a set of simmilar wheels on my car before, like nismopick said, dont ruin the wheels, those lugnuts that are required to make those fit are very common. just go to a local tire shop and they are bound to have the correct ones.

^^^ Now that is a brilliant idea...

If he does still have them, I suspect he won't need them anymore since he sold the wheels...

thanks apollo, and the rest of you guys for that matter...

I spoke to the seller. he put in longer studs some time ago and was using a "Home Depot" bolt /washer rig. In a way, I'm glad. Seems that most people end up damaging these old wheels with conical tapered lugs.

I went to the local NAPA store and asked for lug nuts for a 280Z and he brought out tapered nuts. Mine will need the "reach" style. I'll let you guys know how the search goes.

Thanks,

Tal Griffin

a good wheel/tire shop should be able to help you find what you need.

No problem, you need "mag" style lugs. They have to be the 1.25mm thread and should come with a set of washers. They arent very common, but i know a few chains carry them. I got a set of gorrila locks and lugs for my Shelby's for about 17 bucks. Try looking online for better prices . . .

Curious, but would anyone happen to have like one of those rims handy? One of mine went missing out of my mother's garage and now i need them and would like a matching set. ^.^
