Talking My 15" Turbo wheels are going on soon

As it says, I am getting new tires here hopefully soon. I am putting my 15" Turbo wheels on my '82. I have had them for months, and have been aching to get them on my Z. I just haven't had the money to get new tires. I am putting Yokohama: 215-60-R15 size tires on my Z. I am getting store credit, with my dad's help hopefully this coming weekend. They are $500 out the door with free replacement balancing, 60,000 mile warranty. Pretty much the whole sweet deal. Will let you all know, when I get them on, and I gurantee, pics will follow afterwards.

Soon bro' hopefully verry soon. Got to wait, and see if I can get qualified for credit. And then I will get new tires, and PICS will follow afterwards.

And now since I fixed my last bad wheel stud. I have no worries on taking my Z in for the new tires. I learn something new everyday. First time, I have taken the front rotor apart. Pretty simple, to me in my opinion. Gotta love these sweet 280zx cars.

205/60/15 is stock tire size. I had 215/60/15 on my Z before. It looked ok but was a little oversize.

Have you looked into a wider lower tire? like 225/55/15?

Nismo619... Your tires are too small. Your car is working too hard and turning too many revs per mile and you are loosing power because of it.

WildmaN, 225/60/15 is a little big...

That'd be the perfect tire size for me, but I can't find much selection in that size.

Will the 225-55-15's fit on my stock 15" Turbo Swatztika wheels? If so, can I get the Yokohama's in that tire size? If so I wouldn't mind having a little wider tire. If it would give it a more aggressive stance.

How about you Rod, is that a good tire size for my Z? I want to make sure, I get something that will look good, and keep my speedometer pretty accurate. I can handle a little bit off. Anyway thanks for the chart, that does help me somewhat. And give me your feedback man, that would be cool.

I don't think 225's will fit on the stock Swastika wheels because they're only 6 or 6.5" wide. 225's are intended for 7"+ width. Even if they did fit, hardly any company makes a 225/55-15. Tirerack.com only has two tires in that size http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...t=All&x=72&y=8
As you can see, one of them is a $200 competition tire that wouldn't be suitable for street. And the other is nearly as expensive at $166 for some inexplicable reason!

WildmaN,

They'll fit on your wheels no problem. The hard part is going to be finding something in that size... (225/55/15).

I have Sumitomo HTR 225/55/R15's on my rear... Love em! They fit on the rear perfectly, and are the widest you can go on the fronts w/ stock rims.

All of Sumitomo's tires are called "HTR", so which specific series of HTR's do you have? And when/where did you get them in the 225/55-15 size? Tirerack doesn't currently seem to carry any Sumitomo's in that size.

I am just getting the 215-60-15's for now. I priced the 215-55-15's, I think, and they were way over $100 a tire. And I don't want to spend that much right now. Maybe down the road, I will get some wider tires. I am thrilled to have my 15's put on. I have been dying to get them on my Z. Hopefully this weekend. My dad is helping me co-sign for credit, I should get it. Like I said, pics will follow after they are mounted.

I could be wrong on the 55 tire size. I can't quite remember what sizes Discount had. Anyway all I know is they are more than I want to pay right now.

From: warmspott, trollville.......somewhere sailing the seas--fla, virgin islands...wherever....warm water....LOL
for my daily driver--that i used to go 130 miles to work in for 2 years--i put yokohama--the taller ones on the chart that came with the car--ok only for hiway driving. on my black turbo, i placed the lowest profile on the recommended chart--wow!!!--it is ON for in the turns. those are kumho--nice cheep tire from discount--always get high performance rated tires--r rating is only for round town and avwerage drivers who stick around 55 mph.
for our cars, we are crazy iof we get anything less than very high performance rating--do not want to pop a sidewqall or blow out if at high speeds. specially not in the turns, man. tire ratings are very important--not everyone is aware of that importance--much better handling in the highest and higher performance ratings.
that's why my turbo has kumho--cheepest higher performance tire i could findat the time. i prefer yokohama--they're stickier--do not last as long, but the compound is better for traction at high speeds. 30k miles duration. kumho have higher mileage duration--are a harder compound tire.

think about it, save up ALL your money and go to discount to look at the high performance selection. size doesn't always matter. tires and brakes and alignment are your life, man--do not waste it.

Okay I got approved for my loan at Discount Tire. Going later today, and get my Turbo wheels, and new Yokohama tires installed. I am so friggin' stoked. They actually approved me for $1500. But I don't need that much. I only need a third of that amount. I think I got so much, because my dad was the cosigner for credit. Anyway will let you all know, when it is done. And pics will follow shortly after.

Thanks J, pics will be posted this weekend. I didn't get home, until almost 3pm yesterday. And I have to be at work at 4pm. So I had no time for anything. Anyway I am so stoked, on finally getting my wheels, and tires on. Will keep you all posted as always.

Allright pics will follow tomorrow. I spent a few hours cleaning up the wheels. Somebody obviously used fix-a-flat on them, because of the whitish glue residue, I had to scrub off with steel wool. Also I am a little dissapointed in the width of the tires. I should of got 205-60-15's. Oh well, I will pay them off, and then maybe I will change them again.

Here are the pics for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy, and feel free to post your comments and thoughts. Man does my Z look mean, with those wheels, and the stance in the rear.

His car came those colors from the factory... Sounds like you're trying to steal HIS paint scheme!
