Yup, poly busings are tops on my list of things to come on the Z. I was under my car yesterday giving it a looksy and every single busing is at the very least completely broken up. I can believe the car still handles turns even with the bushings so far rotted. She does have a lot of sway though which is what got me to get under there and give them a check. I've never seen bushings in as bad a condition as these were

welll....i had problems last night, some bafoon that owned the car before me welded the strut in, on only the right side, so the threading to screw that holds the strut in the cartrige was nearly impossible to put in, so i had to make my own threads and grind the weld spots down....but, i got the front two on, and just with the front two on....its a whole world of difference.

Well now that everyone is on the same page: Did you get the rears in yet? And while you're answering that one, which struts did you go with? (cause I'm too lazy to go back and check)

its a coupe....and when your not driving...4 ***** can be interesting....but yes, i did get all four struts put in this weekend, Tokiko....and the difference with the new suspension is unbalievable...i no longer bounce on the freeway, the suspension is soooo stiff...sometimes when im on the freeway and i go over a hump, i feel like im getting air...at the right speed, but it is amazing. you should have seen the other struts, hydraulic fluid was just pouring out of the cartrige, and the cylinder just sank...definately a wise finacial choice, and i also got my H4 lights put in, so now i can see where im going at night

I hope you know that the front cartridge tubes are supposed to have oil in them... The way you talked about oil coming out made me wonder. I don't mean the cartridge itself, but the tube the cartridge inserts in to. If you let all the oil out of there, you're going to have issues. You probably already knew that, but I just wanted to be sure. I've known of guys who thought that the oil in the tube was only there because it leaked out of the cartridge... oops.

I wouldn't have known that Rod. Is that just to keep it from squeeking or what? Or is the strut supposed to be able to rotate in in the sleeve? I'm curious on this one.

If you take apart a front strut it is pretty self-explanitory. Kind of hard to explain though...

Actually, the answer is "yes" to both questions. Ya see, you learn something new everyday! Now what's really funny is when someone goes to drop the new cartridge into the housing full of oil and they're looking straight down at it when they not-so gently drop it in... Splashorama! Seen it happen many, many times. Always good fun

You taught us a while ago that the oil was in there to dissipate heat from the friction of the strut moving. I learned that from Rod!

right, my buddy is a technician at this RV lot i work at, and he helped me out, when we poured out the fluid, it was sludge, pure black...so we poured (scooped) out that stuff and put some new fluid in. i know your supposed to leave fluid in, but i didnt know it was to keep it from overheating, what happens when it over heats? EXPLODE???

The Cartridge needs to be able to ratate inside the housing. No oil means no lubrication... Eventually, the lack of oil can also cause rust and corrosion to form in the strut housing. At some point, without the oil, the two parts will sieze up just like a piston in an engine. Not a good thing.
