Question Power steering leaking bad?????????

My power steering has been leaking since i bought my z 4 years ago. I haven't had the money to fix it but it just recently started getting worse, so I jacked it up to see where it was leaking an it is in the steering box where the lower joint of the steering arm screws into it. I was wondering if you can just replace the seals yourself or if you just have to buy a new part?

You have the rack in pinion power assist steering. I have heard that you can replace the seals in the rack. (or swap in a used rack) I have never done this.

Are you sure its not leaking from the pressure hose connected near the point that you described? That is the common part that leaks.

[FONT=Century Gothic]I just overhauled my 280zx power sterring pump and rack, if you are going to do it yourself is a time consuming procedure. I had to remove the crossmember and lift the motor with a jack. At the same time I changed the "Tension rod bushing, Rack and Pinnion rubber base, tie rod ends, boots, rack and pinnion high an low pressure hoses.

Saludos Gustavo

rack n pinion

I have an 82 and have the same problem I am gonna replace the whole rack however to do it you either have to take half the under carage apart or pull the motor up a little. As far as the seals go I could not find a local place that carried a rebuild kit. A new rack runs about 175$ good luck
