r180 - r200 conversion

yallo, whats the compatibility with these four models of nissan/datsuns rearaxel/differential wise.

mr30-skyline
240k
300zx
280zx

will be neededing to transfer a stronger diff into my mr30 for drifts' sake and i'd like to know strait up what my options are. also curious as to weather or not 240k diffs+rear-axels are compatible with mr30 ones just in case i blow another r180 sometime soon.

am saving up for an r200lsd in the meantime, but i'm confused weather one (diff/rear axels) will swap strait over or not into an mr30s' IRS. if it wont, then how should i be looking about doing this?

being from america...don't know too much about an R30 skyline, except its pretty much the same thing as a datsun 910, which was never sold here. Does the MR30 have the same rear end as the TRX and the 910? (just curious), The N/A 300zx (84-89) axles are the same as the late model turbo 280zx's except they are 1" longer. But with the wheelbearing companion flanges on, they are the same length, but the grease seals are different. Remember that the R200 Diff has a 3.90 gear ratio (just to factor that into your trans gearing). The R180 has equal length half shafts too, the R200 is offset and has different length half shafts, im assuming the MR30 came with the R180. I've heard that the DR30's came with a 3.90 R200 LSD...try to get that setup before attempting this. http://www.zcar.com/forums/search.ph...ct=1&fldbody=1 there you should be able to find enough material about different axles with CVs or u-joints from different years and trim levels of different models. Hope that helped somewhat.

The Datsun 910, if it really is that model, is our 1981-84 Nissan Maxima. They had the L24 engine and RWD. I believe they had an R180 3.36 and 3.54 depending on transmission setup.

If you are planning to drift, don't you have to have a limited slip differential? Open diffs just don't cut it. Only the 87-89 300ZX Turbo has an LSD that I know of. R200.

Unfortunately, most of the posters on this forum are in the US and don't have the depth of knowledge necessary to respond to some of these 'International' Z questions.

Maybe someone from down under or NZ can help.

However, the 810 was the Maxima, I'm not sure what the 910 was. Also, not all 300ZX R200's came with 3.90 diffs. It varied between years, tranny's and whether or not it was a turbo.

The 240K was a version of the Skyline offered back in the 70's all the way to 81. When Nissan first started exporting the Skyline they badged as a K-car, just like the Fairlady became the Z-car. And the MR30 was just a longer way of saying R30, as in R31 which was HR31. Just a little info for those of you so inclined to want to know so. And the 910 was also a Maxima.

Oh and ProjectL28, the R200 diff itself should just bolt right into your car if you've already got the R180. The problem will lie in the axles. Your best bet is to hit up a junk yard with a tape measure and the knowledge of what you're looking for. If you were looking to swap an R200 into a 280zx, then that would be no problem at all. But as far as the R30 goes, you might want to check out some Skyline forums for info on that one. But I can tell you that the diffs between the Z31 300ZX and the 280zx can be interchanged. As for the Skylines, I have no idea.

the maxima was on the "810" chassis, but the 910 was exact - execpt that the body panels had less overhang (shorter fenders hood, bumpersupports, etc...). yea it kinda sucks not knowing a lot about all the good cars that the rest of the world got:-/!

You got that right. We got jipped considering all the nice cars put out over seas. Toyota pretty much gave us all their cars, just toned down versions with an L in the grille. But Nissan really gave us the cold shoulder with their cars. Of course Nissan is just a bunch of BITCHES anyways. Always have been. If it weren't for Prince there wouldn't even be a Z or a Skyline or a Silvia (the ones worth owning)or, well, any of Nissans legendary cars. A little Did You Know?: Prince Motors is still operating independently inside of Nissan and is still reponsible for the design and engineering of THEIR Skyline. Did you know all the modern drivetrain technology Nissan uses dating back to the 60's was all developed by Prince and NOT Nissan. HICAS, ATTESSA, RB...developed by Prince. That L series engine, Prince. Nissan didn't even have an idependant rear suspension til they acquired Prince. I dont know how I even got on this, oh yeah great cars not getting sent this way. lol i didn't know prince did all that! those are some cool "factoids". I knew they were responsible for the first Z's, skyline's, etc...I'm a member on some Datsun forums in Australia, and everything over there is so cool compared to our ****. Damn Emmissions and old white men with attitudes!
