Runs, now needs to stop
I finally got my car running! Now I need to make it stop... 1982 280ZXT
RockAuto has Front brake rotors:
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0831743 { [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty]}
Front Brake Rotor, Vented;Premium;2 Per Car
Are these good rotors and does it come with both front rotors? I don't plan to do any track or street racing. Thinking of putting in steel braided brake lines, do they last longer than the rubber? Where can I find them, don't see them on RockAuto. Should I even bother with steel lines?
The car has been sitting for about 4 years, most the rubber in the car is drying and cracking, so I am also thinking of rebuilding the calipers while I am at it... new wheel bearings. Anything else? I dont plan to mess with the brake booster or the master cylinder just yet unless they start to fail (just other priorities on the car).
I am looking at these in addition to the rotors:
Caliper Repair Kit
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0717541 More Info
Front Kit, Minor, Piston Not Included
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0717585 More Info
Rear Kit, Minor, Piston Not Included
Wheel Oil Seal
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0521450 More Info
Front Wheel Seal, 2 Per Car
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0521567 More Info
Rear Wheel Seal, 2 Per Car
If anyone has better recommendations that would be great. This is all I am aware of at this point, I only read the procedure in the hayes book once, still need to reread it.
Never done this before, so I am just looking at all the stuff I could buy and going from there. Hope it isn't too hard, I am mechanically inclined... i.e. a mechanical engineering student... all theory, no experience
Thanks!

With the Haynes manual at your side, you shouldn't have a prob.

Well, I am not going to go with the steel braided lines... I still am functioning on a students income...
Looking at bearings... there are two sets of bearings per wheel? I see listed inner and out bearings. Probably wont replace... but I will repack them
I am sure I will have more questions after rereading the repair manual
Thanks

Do replace the rubber brake hoses, I just rebuilt my calipers and replaced rubber hoses with stock. Get a bucket of hot water and simple green or other water based degreaser to clean the calipers after taking them apart. use wire brushes and a gray scotch brite to get all the gunk off and the will look like new! Make sure to dry everything thoroughly after washing because the simple green will get bare metal so clean it will flash rust. Don't be afraid to dump the bucket and refill with fresh hot water and more simple green either, it works way better when its hot. As for bearings, clean them with brake cleaner and inspect them as the book says to do. If there's any pitting or flat spotting throw them away. Check the spindle pin too, if it blue or burnt looking that's from lack of bearing maintenance. It's not at all common, but I've heard one horror story and that's enought to make me check every time. get new grease seals and be careful with the dust caps, if you gingerly take them off, you can carefully put them back on with a light mallet and a chisel with a rounded off point. Use the mallet carefully to get the cap to stay on, then follow around it's outer circumference with the chisel to seat it. I have reused mine tons of time on various cars and they all still look good.
My replacement brake hoses didn't come with copper washers, so make sure you get those too. Also, rock Auto really isn't any cheaper than anywhere else once you figure in shipping all that stuff.
