Slipping Clutch?

I have an 80 with only 47600 original miles and I think my clutch is slipping. Should it be slipping this soon. What do I do? I just replaced the slave cylinder a few months ago so I dont thinks it could be that. Is it the clutch or could it be an easy fix?

well dun matter how many miles, what maters is how its been driven, also if its original clutch man thats a 25 year old clutch in there....if you feel it slip...then thats what it is.

I have a 79 280zx that seems to be slipping aswell. It has around 165k miles on it and I have no idea if the original owner messed with the tranny at all. Anyway, I was thinking of replacing it but I wasn't sure of what to get. Should I go for a stock replacement disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing or go for the centerforce 1 clutch and stock TO? Any information would be great, I am just a daily driver and the difference in price is about 50$ from MSA.

well ususaly stock replacement ismore then sufficient for a daily driver stock car....
the preformance clutches are for cars with upgraded endines and more power...the centerforce one will be stiffer then the stock replacement one...on mine i went just OEM replacement cuz i did minor upgrades that dont change preformance that much

Where did you get your OEM replacement from? And do you remember the price?

I went for stock replacement too, but I got the stock turbo clutch. The stronger clutches cause the clutch pedal to be more stiff. If you drive in traffic, you'll get tired of a strong clutch really quick. The turbo Z clutch is about all I can nandle.

I got mine new off eBay. for $115 including shipping. It was $89 plus shipping. Nissan wants about $200.

Ok so I did some clutch searching on Ebay and came up with this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...924787808&rd=1

it looks pertty decent and I cant beat the price, the seller seams to be selling a lot of clutches. But their seems to be a lot of applications for this clutch, so I sent him an email seeing if it would fit my 79 coupe.

P.S. - If i see a bid from one of you guys, I'm going to turn into a 510 fan or somethin, I swear it.

He'll probably say it will fit but, that clutch has the 240mm contact patch. You will need a flywheel from a 280ZX 2+2 or turbo and use it with that clutch. The non-turbo 2-seater has a 225mm contact point.
I haven't verified this myself but this is what others say. That is basically the same kit I purchased and will be installing soon, but I'm installing a turbo transmission and flywheel at the same time.

Lucky me, the same guy has a clutch kit for a normal 280zx which he is going to sell to me for $79.99. Saves me a little bit, a new one from kragens is $120, so yea. things are starting to look up for me.

Any ideas on how I should install the new clutch kit? Its going to be on the floor and im going to be under the car. If you have done this, mind passing on your wisdom on the how-to without the oopses and ouches. Thanks!

i had 2 drive on ramps and i drove up on them....and then jacked up the back end....make sure you got flat ground and lots of support....you can do all 4 jacks...whatever is easier for you...

and when you get the car up...shake it like crazy to see if it would slip off or something before you go under....

and there will be lots of oopses and ouchies lol....

So would I have to disconnect the driveshaft or just leave it connected to the tranny and lay it on the floor? I wanna figure the fastest/easiest way to do this. California has been shaking lately, and I dont want the big one to hit while im under the car, if you know what i mean.

Have another person help you, especially, if this is your first clutch. And use a jack on the tranny, these are not light weight. And best advice, don't get squished.

i disconected mine from the axels and pulled it out of the tranny...
if you are going to do taht make sure your rear wheels spin freely..so you can align the bolts to the outside so you can take em off....
also use a piece of wood on the jack so you dont damage the gear box....
and have a friend to balance it out so you can bring it down nicely...i had my friend help me...just take it slow look trough see what you need to disconect first ...

when i changed from a auto to a 4spd, all i did was jacked it up on one side and pulled the auto out, then about 3 weeks later i bring the car back from my welding shop after the roll cage install, i pulled the motor; rebuilt it and waited for parts..... then i finally put everything together (easier) and mount tranny and motor in at same time. it was easy for me b/c i took my time. btw, you are bound to run into a problem, so expect one
