Squeaks!

Hey All,
This is my first time posting, but I've got a squeak that I was hoping someone might be able to help me find and get rid of. First off I drive an '83 280ZX
Facts: the squeak is ONLY audible when, the car is in gear and coasting
When I accelerate the squeak goes away, and when I take the car out of gear the squeak goes away as well. Any suggestions?

I love this car dearly, and am a Z driver for life because of her. Incidentally the car has 57k miles on the engine (no turbo). It sat for ten years, probably with a quarter tank of vintage gas, because I am afflicted with a rusty gas tank. Also I live in Iowa City, IA so our roads get salted six months out of the year. I hate rust.

Check th gear oil in the trans. Also is it an intermitted squeak or does it constiantly do it? I have had a U-joint go bad and make a intermitted squeak while on the gas but not while coasting. I would lean more tward the the trans if it only happens while in gear.

Yeah that does sound like your throwout bearing. My '82 makes the same noise when I start out. Then it goes away when I get going.

if you low on gear oil its okay.. I have been researching for months now and so far the 5 speed n/a tranny can go 4months and 18 days without gear oil.

I am serious to.

Are you trying to blow it up? You better be careful man because when your tranny goes out it is sure to take some other things with it (engine, driveshaft, or rear-end).
