Strut Replacement

We are planning to replace the front struts on a 1983 280ZX 2+2. However the ones I see on ebay talk about rebuildable strut required for the new cartridge. How does one tell if the existing strut on the car is rebuildable?

the front shocks are replacable cartriges....when you pull the assembly apart...you will be able to take out the cartridge and put it back in ....
