Post Suggestion on tires..

In about a week or two I'd like to buy new tires to my ZX.

First, I'm using stock rims, so I'm at P195/70R14.

Second, I know there are lots of brands out there. I've always liked Yokohamas , so I was looking at these.

I'm not going for performance, since my ZX is not there yet, and I'd like to get an all weather tires for South FL.

What do you guys recommend or think about the ones I'm looking to get?

get some michilen?? auqa tires, i live in b.c. the rain capital of canada it seems, these tires are great, they just dry the road under you. they create spray like a semi. my g/f has them on her car and will only buy those now. i have yokahama avid s/t on my z before them new rims and liked them for std. street driving and some extra performance in wet weather. i had 225/60/r14 on mine and my speedo was close to the same, its not really that big of a deal anyway. hope that helps

No way! A fellow Z'er in Miami?!? Cool! Well bro I dont know why you need all weather, it never snows here! Look into summer tires since they are good for dry and for rain, and Miami is basically summer all year round. But thats just me, I may not be right, and Im definetly not a tire expert. BTW you could also run 205s on the stock rims.

Dude! no way you're from around here.

Yeah, I was thinking just summer tires as well, but wanted to make sure to buy the correct tires. Although Miami's all summer all year round pretty much.
So, you guys think Yokohama's are pretty decent tires? I don't want to buy top of the line tires since I still have LOTS to do on my ZX. And as for those 205 rims...hmm, I may take you up on those.

Tirerack.com sells a set (4) Yokohamas AVID T4 size 205/70TR14 for about $281.00 with S&H. So, this size will fit just fine my stock rims?

Each tire's are about $54.00 which is about what I'm willing to pay and these are some decent tires.

try and go 215/60/r14, or 225/60/r14, youll be happier with the way your car handles, its worth the little bit extra

With stock rims?

I don't have any plans to upgrade rims in the near future.

Shady280 is right again about the differance in aspect ratio of your tire. the less side wall you have the better handling you are going to have on this paticulre car I think as personle openion. what kinde of tire to get is your desision beeing that you know the weather were you are at, but your choince of tire is nice. when I did that kinde of work a lot of people boght the tires and I never got any complaints out of their performance. Take tread rating in consiteration. like tread wear, A,B,C.

dude my zx controls nice and i got 215/55 r14 smooth ride and also my rear end gains control quick when i jerk the wheel going 25 at a 90' degree angle because the zx cars are set up with a 50/50 weight distribution . and if you want a smooth ride you would want some sidewall . with a small side wall you do get more traction BUT you sacrifice a smooth ride unless you have a BOMB *** suspension. but if you have an adequate suspension you would go better off with some sidewall on your tires !

with needle tires and stock suspension you feel every noock and crany in the road . side wall absorbs bumps .

well I wasn't talking bumps I am talking cornering. more side wall more flex and wave the car gives more in the curve. less side wall less to to sway with the stiffer tire. I am talking huging the curvs. the other traction factor would be tread rating.

Bridgeston Potenze RE750's are a great tire in the dry or wet, they'll cost you a little more but you'll be suprised at how hard these grab when it's wets outside.

do to the tred rating being able to grip extreemly well means the tread wont last long. the tread is softer allowing it to grab better. I would go with somthing medium, but that is a personle opinion of mine.

There are tires that grip very well but also have a decent tread wear ratins as well. Of course we're not talking racing spec, but there are UHP tires that still have decent wear ratings. I mean, why buy a grippy tire if you plan to make it last anyways

Oh and too small of a tire circumference is going to increase fender well gap and screw with your speedometer. But it will lower the car overall. And it's not about sidewall size. It's about sidewall stiffness. Look at the sidewalls on a formula 1 racer A stiffer side wall is good for response, not necessarily overall handling performance (though too soft of a sidewall is definitely hurting performance). A small stiff sidewall doesn't necessarily mean the tire is going to pull more lateral g's. It just means that the steering is going to react more quickly and precisely. At some point body roll is going to come into play and make for a not so user friendly ride with a super stiff sidewall.

Can you use these tire measurements with stock rims? This size (215/60/r14) would be nice, but dunno if it will work with stock rims.

I'm really not for high performance/speed tires.

Sometime people forget that tires are one of the most important things on your ride, after all, it is the only thing actually contacting the road.

Check these out if you want good performance in wet or dry with a good treadwear (420) and good price at $55-$75 a tire (Falken Ziex ZE-512 Tires)

Hey by the way I am in Fl also, right up here in Pinellas County and I have used these brand and model tires in the summer here...worked very very well on a heavier car than our Z's.
