SUSPENSION and WHEELS

hey guys 1st post but it seems like the sites pretty new or just not alot of posting...anywho....i have a 1979 280zx thats about to get ovvverhauled...shes gettin tokico hp struts/lowering springs and im going to custom order some diamondracing wheels....im thinkin a 17inch cause i want to fit a pair of 245tires under its ***, so traction wont be a problem anymore...i was wondering if anyone knew what offset would put a 7, 7.5,or 8 inch rim flush with the fender and not hit the suspension...thanks jeff

The site is not new. By default your view shows only the last few days of posts. If you run a search or change the option at the bottom to show all posts you'll see more.

Even zero offset on an 8 inch wide wheel in back will not be flush. You'll have room to spare. You can fit a 9 inch wide in back with zero offset.

I've basically got an 18x8 in back with -7 offset and I still have a little clearance to the fender lip. Don't need to roll the lip or anything.

Hold up... you've managed to get 400hp+ out of an L28, and you know nothing about suspension????

Its a 79 Z so it has the lower compression engine which equals twice the horsepower.... ?

I assume you actually have a custom made turbo L28 to have that kind of power or are you just guessing.

yeah, 400hp is not exactly EASY (not to terribly hard though) to get out of the L motor. so your going to have to put up some pics/mods on here to prove to us. lol. and please dont say "i dont tell people what ive got" cause we dont know you and probably will never reace you for money so you dont gotta try to hustle us on the internet. lol. we're interested though so post! post! post!!!!! lol

Yeah... who'd want proof of an engine's hp anyway...

Hmmmm, I know these car are light and all but I smell something.....what is that.....hmmmm must be the cow poo I am stepping in.

I know it took a highly modified 455ci big block in my '72 Firebird to run mid 10's and that car was around 3,200lbs with the fiberglass front end.

well, who knows, with an ls(insert number here) motor they are good for teh 10's as long as they hook up and have like headers and exhaust, the cars are light and with a big torquey V8 though its bastardizing i can believe it. as long as it isnt like a stock old chevy motor cause they made crap power stock like 350's and w/e but they take abuse and very well to mods.

I understand, I am just being cynical...most 350's in the 80's and what not were like 180hp and with the money and work it would take to make an S130 do 10's I don't think someone would just skimp on suspension as it is very important and "Crucial" for getting that much power down the track. The suspension should have been the first thing modified in this B.S. session.

P.S. What about the lack of a full frame...can you say TWISTER!!!

Cool

I created the image for a group a while back and the web page is still underwraps, it sort of hit a stopping point when I moved to TX to finish tech school 14 months ago... WHO KNEW! 260zturbo here is part of the group, I have been a member of this site for about 3 years and have yet to post until the v-tec comment. I usually read more than post on these sites.
