1980 na 280ZX 5spd surges at idle
Hello Everyone!
I'm new to the site but am the 2nd owner of a 1980 na ZX 5spd :burnout: . I've owned it since 01/89 (122k miles), top end rebuild/new timing gear 1990 by Jim Wolf himself, 1993 rebuilt tranny (180k), parked 08/02 to 10/04 when I had 6 new injectors, cold start, head-temp sensor, NGK plugs, cap, rotor, radiator, thermostat, upper/lower hose and valve adjustment.
It was parked because at idle it surges from near stalling to 900 - 1100 rpms. When coming to a stop, it nearly stalls when I step on the clutch. The mechanic I brought it to said it was running rich but it still managed to pass smog w/ all original equipment. It ran great when I got it back but the condition has returned.
The other day I drove it to my sister's house and it struggled the whole way there. On the way home it ran great, idled smoothly at 750 rpms w/out even a hiccup. I've heard that the ECU connectors can get corroded and need to be cleaned and changing the O2 sensor, PCV valve and vacuum hoses have been recommended.
Also, the cruise control main switch lights up, but the set switch on the turn signal does not work. Is it the turn signal switch or the cruise control itself?? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I decided to bring my Z back to life after stumbling onto this website a while back. You've all got me fired up again about my Z and I'm looking forward to restoring it. Again thanks in advance and I apologize for such a long post but I need help!!!!!

Thanks for the info fellas, I'll let you know how it works out. I have to wait for this storm in San Diego to pass so I can work on it.
Any suggestions as to where I can buy some quality vacuum hoses (ones that last longer)?
Again, many thanks for your help!!

dude...you can buy(if they even have) high quality hoses..but really....cmon...the hoses cost maybe 5 $ and they last a few good years at least 5...now your sayin a 5$ investment out of five years or so is gonna break the bank? i wouldnt think so... if they have em...go for it, but i wouldnt...a hose is a hose.....they all work the same..
maybe you can invest in a really tiny "turbonator" for your vacuum hoses..hahahaha
