240sx Throttle body swap questions. HELP!

I just scored a throttle body from a 89 240sx. I think its a 60mm. The only thing is the way to install it. I have no clue. I can go to hybridz, I guess, but I know that nismopick, shady, thxone, zcarbarbie, etc. probably have the answer I need.

I can't get the images any smaller than 500 or so kb, so I'm stuck, but I have a starter question: do I need to use the 240sx throttle switch, or can I use the one from the old throttle body? also, do I need a spacer to make this work? any thing will help.

well, first you need a spacer or you can try porting out the manifold opening to match 60mm and then you need to get a linkage conversion so the 240sx TB will connect to the stock Z TB linkage setup. as for TPS, im not sure my self how thats done so ill continue to read when others answer

go to www.graytechsoftware.com they sell the spacer kit and will tell you how to apapt the linkage as well as port match. i think that the tps uses the same plug but you have to extend the wires. i have been researching this but my car can't be down for more than a day or so. so i will have to pick up all the parts extra and then bolt them on all at once. from what i understand you will have to port match or else it won't be that much of an improvment and then you have to get a turbo afm and swap the circut board with an N/A to allow more airflow. and you use the 240sx tps. for the best results you should port the head and smooth everything up. and then you have to decide wether or not you want to keep the water lines.

So after the spacer, the 240sx tps, the porting of the head, the turbo afm (with n/a circuit board), realistically, how many horses am I looking at adding to this chariot?

from what i have read it isn't going to add very much. but it will increase throttle response. basically you won't increase your top speed much but you will rev quicker and feel faster.

of corse if you have a turbo then you don't need to swap the afm.

and if you port the head then that should increase horsepower by itself. it is hard to find a realistic number for the swap. most if the info i have found has been by people who are guessing or are doing a lot of other mods at the same time. and a cold air intake will help as well.

Right on. got the intake. port the head. hmm. i'll have to look into that.
but throttle response will help my 1/4 mile time on wednesday nights. 17 seconds sucks ***! especially when a honda civic beats you. I hate those mufflers on civics. sounds like a lawn mower in a coffe can.

Ok... after reading all the responses on this thread, I'd like to correct / organize these things:

#1 - If you have a turbo, you can use the 240sx TPS... if you have an n/a you need to re-use the stock 280zx TPS.

#2 - Porting the head is a bit down the road for this mod (boring the head won't do much because the manifold is still restrictive). You do need to bore out the intake manifold neck where the TB bolts up.

#3 - Yes, you also need a 1" spacer if you want to use the stock linkage... or you can flip it 180 degrees (so the linkage is on the left side & use a cable linkage.

#4 - Indeed, this mod by itself yields very minimal hp, but in combination it is useful. Remember, you need more air & fuel to make more power.

thank you for correcting me. so if i have a n/a then i fab a way to mount my stock tps to the 240sx throttle body. is there any other differences between the turbo install and that for an n/a?

after doing more searching i have discovered more answers. alot more answers. most of which conflict with eachother. with my new knowldge this is what i can pass on until i do this to my n/a then i will post a how to with pics
#1 buy everything as extra parts so your car isn't down if something doesn't work.
#2 do alot of searching and take the common stuff like port matching the intake and stuff like that and do it.
#3 and for the tps i found that some people say that they used the 240sx with no problems but that they didn't say wether or not they had a turbo or not. so see if it hooks up if so great, if not then nismopick is right. but it doesn't look like the hardest thing to fix redrill some holes, maybe a little wiring.
#4 just don't give up if you run into a problem.

For your #3...

The n/a uses 3 wires on the tps... the turbo uses 2 wires like the 240sx.

you have to swap the L's throttle shaft goodies over to the KA throttle body. Then viola!, the linkage works.

Some 60mm shafts have 12mm nuts, some have 14mm. The L28 TB is a 12mm nut... so if you find a 12mm 60mm TB, you can swap the linkage right over. If you have the 14mm you will need to modify it some.

have fun boring out your intake to fit the 60mm. i did away with the linkage and used cable. very simple to mod it to the z pedal.

Doesn't take too long w/ the right bit. Make sure you get a carbide tooth'd bit.
