280zx stubles in gear

Hi,

All of a sudden my car started stumbling on and off when I'm driving in first second and third gear on surface street at about 40 miles an hour. It stumbled as if I put my foot on the break suddenly while driving. Is this a brake problem or is the clutch going bad?

Please let me know your thoughts on this also should I drive it or tow it to the shop?

Thanks for the help

Check your plug wires, coil, and electrical connections like the TPS and fuel injector connectors. It may also be an early sign of the ignition module going out, but start with the easy stuff to address. I'm sure there are some other things to look at, but maybe Bleach and the others can give some more advice.

Is it possible that the clutch will casuse this stumbling if something is going on wrong with it?

I replaced fuel filter three months ago, also plugs and wires with NGK's, PCV valve and O2 sensor around the same time. Also, I have a second car, so I hardly put any miles on it since I replaced all of these parts.

Thanks

Hi,

What's involved with the ignition module going bad, and how expensive is it to fix?
Thinking about it some more, if it dies on me, that make sense that it could be the ignition.

Thanks

I'm tellin' ya... you could have replaced the fuel filter 2 days ago and still have a clogged one. I took my car to Florida last year... put new filter when I got there. A week later my car did the EXACT same thing... so I replaced the plugs... same thing. On a whim, I put another new filter in and lo and behold... problem solved. Turns out tht Shell had delivered about a million gallons of bad fuel to the Gulf state region. I was the lucky one. It only cost me a filter. A lot of people are suing Shell now for huge repair bills associated with that deal. One little chunk of crap breaking loose in your tank can kill a brand new filter right away. Spend the 8 bucks on a new one and see what happens. If I'm wrong... You got problems.
