280zxt timing with oil pump

oookkk...I am trying ONE more time before giving up on the beast!

When i take the oil pump off and realign it to the distributor, what am i looking for . where should the #1 piston be and where should rotor be pointed?

Can someone draw a pic locating where #1 is on cap and where the rotor and piston lines up to?

Im gettin my manual tomorrow from a friend but i wanna go ahead and think what im getting myself back into.

ONe more thing to ADD.

The exhaust and turbo has been removed, When the engine rolls over it pops burst of flames outta the exhaust manifold. Any ideas?

Is it only b/c the pipes arent hooked up? Will it not crank without exhaust hooked up?

CAN SOMEONE TAKE A PIC OF THERE "STOCK" OVERHEAD VIEW OF VACCUM LINES AND WHERE THEY GO? PLEASE MAKE SEVERAL SHOTS B/C I DIDNT TAKE THEM OFF AND I NEED SOME HELP. I NEED TO KNOW WHERE THE VACCUM LINES ON INTAKE GO AND THE LITTLE METAL LINES THAT ARE CONNECTED THREE TOGETHER AT THE BOTTOM OF INTAKE???

Whoa homie... slow down! sheesh! We're not being PAID to be mechanics here.

Anyway, why are you trying to start your engine, when it's not even put together properly?

Get the service manual tomorrow & finish when you have diagrams in front of you. That will save us all some time.

You tried reading the words? They usually write the manuals in simple terms... but you still need to know the basics... like what TDC is.

To line up the distrib & oil pump, cylinder #1 must be @ TDC. Then you line up the markings on the oil pump & insert it into the timing cover (might have to loosen your anti-sway bar). Then you can install the distributor w/ the rotor facing straight forward. Simple as that!

That's what I was thinking just tonight when I was looking at the exploded views of the suspensions. And those catalogs are free

what markings are on the oil pump? I think i only remeber a half moon shaped male and female end.

The distributor needs to be at #1?
and the #1 piston TDC?
what does the cam need to look like?

This is why a service manual helps! It explains all the answers to your questions.. in detail!
