79 280zx Fuel Delivery Issues
Mmmk.
Got this gorgeous broad for free from a friend who no longer wanted to deal with it.
Long story short, after installing the new starter, the motor starts up, idles like **** for around 10 seconds and promptly dies, especially when applying throttle. When I was tooling around in the engine bay, the cover fell off the AFM, I manually moved the valve open to a middle setting while the motor was still firing under it's own power and the idle speed picked up, albeit shakily, and idled fine until I let the valve go back to its resting state.
Where do I start? It must be a fuel delivery issue, but as it is getting enough fuel to start and idle when messing with the AFM, I can't think of where to start. Cold start valve? Pressure regulator?(Which is new) Damper? Injectors? ECU? Wiring somewhere?
A little bit of backstory, the previous owner gave up after running the car to empty. Rust was pulled up from the bottom of the tank, which I have now pulled out, cleaned, and re-sealed with RedKote. New-ish fuel filter, new starter, new pressure regulator.
ANY and ALL help/suggestions are deeply appreciated, I'm stumped and inexperienced.

Yes... start with the basics.
Read spark plug tips
Check timing
Check fuel pressure
Check cold start valve and air regulator (idle controls)
Check CHTS
Check all sensor connectors.
If the AFM has been tampered with, you will need an AF gauge to get it back to spec.
And download the FSM from: XenonS130 - S130 Reference
