82 280zx intial start issue

my 82ZX N/T idles rough for the first minute then clears up with throttle. The FSM is kind of vague on checking the air control valve, can someone at least point me in the right direction? 136K miles, new fuel filter, plugs, injectors. The air flow meter checked okay.

Pull out your cold start Injector and clean It along with both sides of the electrical connectors for It and The Air Control Valve. That worked for me. Also check your Afm To TB Boot for Unmetered air or any where else for that matter.

An n/a rough cold start is either a faulty thermotime sensor / cold start valve, or faulty / leaking air regulator.

So:
#1: After cold starting, pinch hose between throttle body and air regulator. The idle rpm should drop. If not, the air regulator is not functioning (stuck closed). If it does, move to following step:

#2: Pull cold start valve & clean. Start car, no change: test thermotime sensor (Heat / Ohm test).
