'82 turbo starting issue

Hoping someone can guide me on this starting issue for my '82 280zx turbo.

When I turn the key normally I will hear the fuel pump and then when it stops I can start the car. What is happening now is I turn the key and instead of hearing the fuel pump I hear a clicking noise in the ignition relay under the dash and the car won't start.

Relays, fuseable links and ignition switch are all new.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to ZDriver!

So the fuel pump DOESN'T turn on at all?
And the clicking noise from the ignition relay is under the dash where? Drivers side? Passenger side? By the glove box?

Have you recently touched the ecu or any other wires? Did this happen out of the blue or were you working on the car?

Fuel pump does NOT turn on. The clicking relay is on the passenger side to the right side of the glove box. I changed it this morning just to see it that was the problem. No change.

The problem has been going on for some time (years off and on). We have been working on the car because of this issue.

Not sure about the ecu or other wires. (sorry)

Did you change the GREEN relay on the right of the glovebox? That's the fuel pump relay, and takes some digging to get to. Sounds like that relay isn't working.

Have you also checked to make sure the fuel pump module above the ecu in the driver kick panel is securely grounded?

I'll check the fuel pump module. That hasn't been done. The relay I changed wasn't green but there wasn't a green one under there. Two blue and a black. The one I changed had a green wire leading into it. I was going off a diagram in the book. :-|

Yep... you need to change the green one that has a blue w/ red stripe wire.
