battery relocation

Has anyone ever done a relocation of the battery to the trunk?
considering this,as my battery area is quite rusted (like most early z cars)
wondering what all this requires thanks

A lot of people relocate the battery to the back for auto-x and track racing. It's not hard... just gotta string a big *** battery cable from the back to the front (usually bought from a car audio store).

You could put it in the spare tire well, or build a box & keep it in the hatch... just remember, it needs to be secured / protected, and I wouldn't put it in direct sun light. Also remember that normal car batteries emit fumes, so you should probably buy a sealed battery or one of those gel / marine batteries.

Does this not answer your question?

Basically the same way you would a subwoofer. Tuck it and hide it under the carpet and the like.

Or you could fix the rusted area, and buy an Optima battery like I did. No corrosion or rusty terminals to worry about. They are Gel-cel batteries.

You could always poke another hole through the rusted firewall or floor.

these cars have a 51% rear weight bias. moving the battery that far back is good for drag racing, but not curvy racing. you could put it behind the passager seat in the cubby. i knew someone who did that with an optima when he put a v8 under the hood

money is an issue right now so I won't be doing that right away, plus its my dd. looking for a quick fix that doesn't involve putting the battery in the engine bay anymore so as to not collapse the battery platform completely

Moving the battery to the rear isn't going to be a cheap fix. You need heavy gauge wires to do it properly and copper isn't cheap. Use 1 or 00 gauge wiring for the ground and positive.

If you are going to relocate the battery I really liked the moded 240Z I saw at Canby this year. They had a narrow battery and cut the tray out as well as the wheel arch and boxed it back in with sheet metal level with the frame rails. Drops the weight down near the roll center of the car.
