Is the Boost Sensor necessary?

On my '82 Turbo, there's a small box near the left strut, marked "Boost Sensor" that reads pressure via a small line off the intake manifold. In my repair manual it's called a "Boost Sensor Amplifier". My question is if this device is solely for the stock electric boost gauge, or if the stock engine management needs it for some reason. I had removed my stock boost gauge and was wondering if I can remove this Boost Sensor also, or if I need to keep it for engine management purposes.

You can take that out, it's just a pressure line for the stock gauge.
