So the driveshaft would just need to have the end modified, it wouldn't actually need to be shortened? I guess when the time comes I'll just measure it up to be safe

I don't see why you would 'modify' the driveshaft when putting it into a 280ZX. Just take the time to find a 2-seater turbo driveshaft and differential flange from a turbo 280zx. Or from a 2+2 turbo if you have a 2+2. That's what I did. I even paid top dollar for it because I didn't have time to waste but it was still less than what it would have cost for a driveline shop to modify and balance a driveshaft.

(I had a 2-seater turbo driveshaft and the NA 2+2 one to make into one unit)

So ya, when I found the 2+2 turbo driveshaft I just bolted it all in and it was balanced from the factory. If you drop a T5 in a 240Z then you're looking at a custom length driveshaft anyway so you might as well make one to fit your application.

Oh... and the turbo driveshaft is a bigger diameter.

My L28ET was from a 2seater, so I just had a local shop (Six States Drivelines) extend my 2seater turbo driveshaft to the 2+2 length, & balance it for $95. Kinda expensive... but that sucker ain't ever gunna break!

I ended up paying about $125 for the turbo 2+2 driveshaft with differential flange. I was looking at $200 for a driveshaft modification. Your shop is cheap! That makes it a tossup on weather to go with a factory unit but I didn't find that good of a price.

yeah I think it's was like $150 or something like that when I called the junk yard, but that was for a 2+2 so I'd have to get it hacked anyways (it's going into a 2 seater). I could always broaden the search (I use car-part.com) and just do a little driving to get it. Or Maybe I'll just keep the stock 5 speed instead of the T5 to make things a little more simple for now. I dont plan on doing much work to the car other than getting it running good. Atleast not until I finish basic and Tech training. Then I'll worry about all that stuff. I just need to get the car up to par before I leave. The Z is the car we're keeping so it's got to be up to snuff for my wife and son to be cruising around in. (anybody want a 4 speed? )

T5 is a noisier transmission, basically a truck transmission.
I threw a insulator blanket under my carpeting and that lessen the noise.
BTW, the transmission was new when I installed it so.....it's a tad noisier, but not to worry.

Don't recall meeting you, I've been driving on the same T5 tranny for about twenty some odd years.....mostly odd now that I'm thinking about it.

I'm not a fan of the T5. Its clunkier, noisier and not very strong compared to the later "World Class" T5's.

The only real advantage is that for only $2500 you can have your Nissan T5 rebuilt and converted to GForce gears that should be able to handle about 600 ft/lbs of torqe in our sub 3000 lb cars...
