why do you have a chain and sprocket, the 280zx went to timing belt in 76.

I have a feeling you pulled the top sprocket off and let the chain fall down a bit.

You now have to remove the sway bar, oil pump, and then the front cover. You will have to re-set the tensioner back in place (maybe buy a new one so its fresh) and then put your timing chain set together.

Also tighten your leather belt.

whoever hoov100 is he is an obvious bonehead if he can't tell the difference between a chain and a belt. No L28 engine has a timing belt. Z didn't get that abomination until the vg30 engine in 84
