engine swap
hey guys
i really want more hp in my z, im looking to do an auto manual swap, and also to replace the engine.
i can do it all at home so should save some money, i want something turbo, im not wanting to put in a V8 or anything like that.
any suggestions on what i should sawp to???
i was thinking just the turbo version of the 280zx engine (cant remember the code) for an easy swap. Are these engines any good? would they be ok for modification??? ie decent amount of hourse power
im not looking to break the land speed record but i would like to b faster than the majority of the crap on the roads.
thanks guys p

the turbo swap is prolly the easiest swap to do on your car but if you have no mechanical experiance then i wouldnt suddgest trying to do it on your own... the mechanical swap isnt too much work but the electrical is prolly going to be the hardest thing to do... what you might want to do is look into just beefing up the engine you have now... add headders get a cam and maybe get your head port and polished... you should notice a huge amount og performance gain from jsut doing that.. and if you want to swap out your auto to manual tranny thats not that hard either...

well i have a bit of experience with that sort of thing and plus i have my dad to give me a hand, hes been into cars for a long time now. We do everything on our cars ourselves, it saves heeps of cash. So im not to worried about the mechanincal that should be relativly easy, u right thow the electrical could be pain in the ***, but im sure we could figure it out eventually.
Im also looking for another Z with little as possible rust on her, so i can drive one while working on the other, im gonna strip her down to a shell and work from the ground up.
so im deffinatly thinking of a L28T (is that right for the turbo motor?)
and manual tranny, how much would they set me back do u think? cause i have never seen a turbo engine here in australia, so i might have to get it from the states and the bring it into ozz.
thanks P

For the complete Turbo engine (L28ET) it can cost you anywhere from $400-1000 USD depending on the condition of it. You'll need one complete though with wiring harness and ECU so that will be hard to find without being here locally to pull everything yourself. You may need to buy whatever engine you can as complete as it is and then search for the missing components separatly.
