exaust....sound

Right now i have a 2.25" full exaust and a 4"outlet tip (the tips that civics put on theirs, that look like coffee cans) but i was wanting to ask how to make a better sound, so what would i have to change to make a deeper quieter sound? Right now it sounds like an old muscle car  which i dont want, help plz thnxs

Replace just the muffler. Remove the muffler off the back and put a Dynomax straight through style muffler. That is probably the sound you're after.

If you're on a budget and can't afford a Dynomax, I put an 18" glass pack on mine and it sounds nice and throaty with a stock system. Most private exhaust shops carry them and they are a flow through design.

lol the man said he wanted it quieter... the Dynomax or glass pack will sound deep but theyre pretty loud.. i know ive got a glass pack in mine and at low rpm under load the car sounds like a beast!! but i think for what hes looking for... he might want to go with the borlla muffler... they use that mufler on porches... its nice and deep but not too loud...

i would agree, porsches have great sounding exhausts, and more along the line of what hes looking for...all i have to say is dont make it sound like a rice burner, those seem to have a bad reputation. and they suck.

I'm running a full 2.5" pipe with a cat, glasspack, and a Flowmaster. Its probably not good on flow with all three items inline with the exhaust. After having the 2.5" with Flowmaster put on, it was too loud for me. The glasspack in the middle helped. I also know having the smaller pipe helps keep the sound down. 2.25" is what I would recomend for anyone else.

Sk8ur: Do you actually have a muffler on your car now? From reading your description again it sounds like you might just have a straight pipe and a bolt-on exhaust tip. Any muffler at all will be quieter than that!

i do agree... i have a 2.5" flow master on my car and my car sound nice and good and what love about flowmaster is the sound when youre decellerating slowly, and the acceration tone is perfect... if you want decent sound... flowmaster is cool because its not all too loud, but loud enough to definitely make your presence noticed

also, when my emission standards go away, im runnin striaght pipes on my with a possibly a larger tip, like 3.5" with 5" tip

that would be nice! and i have a place i can go where it would be cool with that, dispite 81s emissions.. this is prolly going to happen late 2005 before my car turns 25 in 2006...

I'm running dual 2.5" to dual Flowmasters. A little loud for my liking but very nice tone behind 5.7 litres. :burnout:

uuuhh, ya. 5.7L is much different. I saw an article a while back on some tests with a 350. They ran dual 2.5" and dual 2.25" with and without mufflers.
The final word was that 2.5" duals produced slightly more power at high rpms. But dual 2.25" produced so much more midrange power that the top end gained from the 2.25" was not worth it. plus, the 2.25" was much quieter. Both ran more power with mufflers rather than straight headers! A little backpressure is good.

Anyway, and 3.5" is way too big. Bigger pipe does not equal more power, just more noise. If you have a REALLY powerful turbo engine then maybe you can think about 3.5 inch. 2.5" is more than enough for even a very highly modified non-turbo L28. That's why I say go with 2.25" for most every street driven Z.

i know i dont need 3.5" exhaust, i want it cuz it would sound pretty nice runnin striaght pipes.. plus even though a 2.5" is necessary for high performance, larger exhaust will only allow it to breathe even more..
