Fuel Management

What are the options in term s of fuel management?

Can the Apexi SAFC or the Greddy E-Manage work on the 280zx ecu?

All of those piggy-back systems will not work with our ECUs. Though you could use a Z31 ECU and then one of those piggybacks would work but I don't think it is worth the trouble. Your best bet it to go full stand alone. And if your on a budget I think MSnS is cheaper then Greddy Emanage2. There are many choices it just depends on what you are looking for.

The biggest thing is getting something your local tuner knows how to work with, Haltech, SDS, Motec, Autronic...............

If you need more info just ask, oh and I am curious what setup you have that would require an aftermarket fuel management system???

It would help if I knew what your setup was, no big deal it just makes it easier to decide which route to go

Z31 = 84-89 300zx

Use the ecu's from the 84-87 model year, the 88-89 switched to a higher bit map and it requires adding resistors inline with the fuel injectors. Both n/a or turbo work, so whatever you find, you can use.

^^^ It might sound crazy but it's a 280zx(turbo) with a L20-ET(skyline-japan only) ecu.

From what I have read you need the MAF, ECU and Dizzy. I would suggest getting one from a 87'-89'. But if it's from a turbo then changes will be needed for the 02 sensor to work. Just my personal preference but I would just go with Mega Squirt for the money. Not only is it cheap but its easy. If you go to HybridZ.org there are detailed instructions on the installation and there is an entire section dedicated to megasquirt. Also do you plan to make the car faster?

MegaSquirt is a programmable stand alone engine management system that you can build yourself (or buy preassembled). It's not the most advanced piece of hardware but its alot better than the stock ECU and will do the trick for a moderate performance machine.
Here's the link to the main megasquirt site. But there are others where you can buy preassembled units for a little more money.

Also check out this site:http://forums.hybridz.org/forumdisplay.php?f=88
That whole forum is dedicated to megasquirt. The rest of the site might be of interest to you too. But uh, don't go on there and ask what a Z31 is. Thats allowable around here but over there they'll bite your head off. Some good reading though.

I'm not sure if the L20et is the same for wiring as the L28et, do you have a wiring diagram? The Z31 swap isn't too bad. Involves switching the wires for the mass air flow meter, about 5 or 6 wires on the ecu harness, and changing the CAS wheel in the distributor. If you want to use an SAFC-II with the Z31 setup, upgrade to a 60mm throttle body from a 240sx that has the extra pigtail and take the throttle position readings from that.

Yeah, and I would use the RB25DET ECU anyway. Especially if you already have one.
