GM HEI Ignition

hey ive read somewhere that you can swap the old distributor assembly and attached system for a GM distributor and MSD blaster coil, this is true for the 79 and earlier 240-280z's is it possible to do this swap with the 83 280zx, my purpose is to avoid buying the nissan ignition control module, cause its $200+ as opposed to the $22 GM ignition control module

I would highly recomend against the GM HEI unit. It is only good to about 4500 and even some chevy people hate them. Switch to a nissan control module like an e12-80 or e12-92. pull them out of the pick your part junkyards for like 5 bucks. HEI sell new for like 30 and the nissan module sells for 200 you do the math. your choice however.
